Default The 30+ year old barrette and my daughter

My daughter has been wearing a barrette that looks beautiful in her hair.
I doubt anyone knows that it is 30 + years old.

It was my barrette when I was her age. I remember wearing it and its matching barrette constantly. It was a favorite of mine.

Today my daughter noticed that the sticker (decoration) on it was starting to peel up and asked me to fix it. So it stayed home and she wore its mate.

That made me think about older things that are still in use today that are considered disposable by many people. We still daily use the small battery operated radio I received for my 8th birthday. Imagine that radio has been turned on daily for almost 32 years

What are some older things that you are still using that would be considered disposable to many?

This is so strange.. after 14+ years of short hair I've decided to let my hair grow out. I kept my favorite hair do-dads. So, amongst all my stuff is this hair barrette. It is probably 20+ years old. I just love it & will plan to wear it again. Remember the big bows, I also have a shoe box of my favorites. Maybe I will restart that fad! Isn't it funny what stuff we keep, years pass & use it again. And I gave my youngest dau her barrettes she wore on her 1st day of kindergarten, to put in her dau's hair.

Where the big bows from the '80? I don't remember big bows.

Some things we save and use later. Somethings we use everyday and they keep on going.

I have a calculator that is over 30 years old. Am still using two different cups that I can remember using when I was a small child. Still have a charm braclet that is over 40 years old.

Does your charm bracelet have special charms on it?

You just made me remember that the little cup we use was a Prize from Sunday school for prefect attendance one quarter.

Oh and the cereal bowls are "butter" cups. The margarine when I was a child came in collector addition bowls (I think they were meant for cereal bowls). Mom let me pick out the colors. That was my favorite part about grocery shopping as a child. I wonder how many of those have been thrown away by others. Ours are still in daily use.

My son uses a sippy cup that his dad used when he was little. It's cute.

Some of those old toys are better than some they make today. My mom saved everything and she gave me some old cars that my son loves to play with.

Oh..I remember those bows. lol. I have a few pics from school with me wearing them.

If my Nintendo still worked, I would still be happy with those old games and not buy all the new stuff.

My great-grandchildren used a sippy cup that my kids used. It's really beat-up looking, but that's the one they wanted when they visited us. They're both too old for it now, but they recognize it as "their own".

My dad still uses the calculator that he bought while in college nearly 40 year ago. It has out lasted many fancier calculators.

I cannot wait to discover all the things I still use. I do have a calculator that is also a biolator that calculates biorhythms that I bough over 30 years ago. Will post more as I discover goodies.

One of my favorites is a Ginny doll that is over 50 years old from when I was a little girl. I still have the amazingly detailed clothes that my grandmother made for her.

I have all of the stuffed animals that I earned in Girl Scouts for selling cookies and magazines!

Until recently, I had the "boom box" I received as a birthday present.....probably in about 5th grade!

I have my Smurf collection from 3rd grade! About 100 of those little buggers.

Mines not nearly as old or exciting but I have DS(14) playpen still. I HONESTLY do not know where it was but seemed to have appeared a few months back and I am using it for the new puppy!

I have my Gmas Cookie press still in an OLD produce bag she had it in and use it each time I make deviled eggs. I think of her not only that it was her press but also...she LOVES deviled eggs and only gets to enjoy them when I make them(my cousin who lives near her watches her diet VERY close)! I also have a VERY old plate that she hung on her kitchen wall that says "Never under estimate the power of a woman" she was the mother of 6!! It still has old yellowed glue under my new glue gun glue from when it broke when she had it. It now hangs above my kitchen window.

I have a big-toothed hair comb that is over 30 years old. It's my favorite and I use it still, everyday! It never leaves the house which is probably why I still have it. As for childhood toys, I have nothing. My Dad sold it all for cheap at the flea market many years ago. I can only imagine what my Barbies and outfits would bring today on Ebay!

That is great! My Mom just gave me her big old cookbook that she got when she was first married. It's cover is worn off and some pages torn but I am delighted with the old thing! I saw some online that they wanted a fortune for.

My daughter plays with my cabbage patch dolls and homemade Barbie clothes my mom made for Christmas presents. She also has my old jewelry and jewelry box. She has an embroidered wall hanging my mom made for me. I got out my cabbage patch sewing machine, but we cannot find batteries that fit it. My kids read old books that I had. My son has some of DH's legos and metal transformers. He loves those.
