Being polite pays off
Today at Subway the children said as usual their please and thank yous when ordering. Little Miss looked at the cookies knowing not to even ask for one. But she pointed it out to me and I said "Yes, I see them". When we finished ordering sandwiches only. The lady ask us if we wanted anything else. I said "No Thank you".
She then asked if the children would like a Free Cookie because she didn't believe she had ever had such polite children in the store.
They picked out their favorite and politely thanked her.
It was so nice that she encouraged their politeness."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

Awe you made me blush. I do hope we are doing a good job.
Hubby always tells the children "People remember how you treat them".
A few weeks ago Buddy had run out of lunch money and at middle school the rule is no charges. No money no eat. I remembered that he was out of money late and rushed money up since it was State test day( so he needed lunch other wise I would have let him suffer the consequences of no lunch money)
I rushed up to pay and the lady says "Oh, he has already been here". I'm confused how could this lady know my son out of the 600 plus students that went through her line. I ask if he ate. She said yes, she let him charge "because he is nice". He tells her "have a nice day" everyday when he goes through her line."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I love hearing stories like this. I have found, as an adult, that people respond far better when you treat them with kindness. Even asking tech support how their day is going sometimes gets a better response than if you yell at them.
Keep up the great work..

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Congrats to you and your children. As a public school employee,I find that very few children have good manners. I say good morning everyday to students who look me in the face and don't open their mouths. There is one 4th grade girl who says ,"Good morning Mrs Xxxx" everyday that I see her. Such a sweet child!

We were raised to always say ma'am and sir to adults and got into trouble if we didn't. We raised our kids the same way. We have had several people comment on their manners. Even as adult children they still call older adults ma'am and sir.
We run a foster home and some of the manners that these children have had was horrible. If they didn't learn anything else they learned to say ma'am and sir to adults. When they were talking to us and they didn't say it, we would answer them with "excuse me" as a reminder. Older foster children that have aged out of our home call and see us all the time, and they still call us ma'am and sir. It just sounds so much better that yeah.....Jan

Curmudgeons may have fun, but they probably don't get many free cookies.
You're doing great with the children. You deserve a free cookie too!Donna
