Paying $1.50, if you have one soda a day, means you've spent $547.50 a year (before tax). If you have three a day, you've just flushed away $1,642.50.

I am a few steps ahead. I don't smoke, play online poker, or watch porn.

It was a fun article read, really shows how the little things add up. I have been successfully cutting down on my soda consumption. Even though I don't buy single sodas, I buy 2 liters or wait for a sale on 12 packs, I know the cost adds up.

I have no idea why people would buy gossip magazines. You can log onto almost any television-based website for free and read the same crap. Yahoo is horrible for that.

I also drink pop (as we call it in MI, LOL) and I also do not buy it in gas stations and do buy it when it is on sale. We all drink something and it costs money, including bottled water.
Some of what this article is about has also been labeled the latte factor (considering places to save alot of money in places you may not think of that you spend money every day)

somewhere i read that "starbucks" should be called "fivebucks". i thought that was funny.
i knew a young teacher who quit the profession because she said she couldn't live on the salary. yet there was a fresh
"fivebucks" in her hand morning and afternoon. sad.11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I totally get the coffee thing. Many moons ago when DH and I started dating we had this problem. I have always been a heavy coffee drinker.I had the money then at least....andyway it was so easy for us to spen over 20.oo a day on coffee! It was simple for me that was my only vice he had that plus cigs. Anyway once we got together and had everything shared I smarted up. I bought to go cups and made it at home. Well we have not been coffee buyers in yrs! I have to say we make at least 5 pots a day.I now buy generic coffee in the huge tins lol. We have saved a bunch that way. Just my rambeling 2 cents.(yup that 20.00 a day can last us a month now on coffee and it tastes better)

I'm doing pretty good.
I don't smoke, watch porn, text message, play the lottery, play online poker and I hate Starbucks and other specialty coffee shops.
As a rule, I am not a soda drinker.
We could do a little better with our car maintenance.
Now, I love my People magazine and will always and forever buy it. Also, I gotta have my fries with my burger. In the big picture, the money I spend on fries and People is very little.DD (19)

Since I don't have any of these bad habits, I've saved a lot of money so far, I guess. But there are always other bad habits which take up my money, such as unwise purchases.
Russ, I got a laugh out of your profile: "the forum anti-curmudgeon".

Okay....I'm not doing too bad.........the 'fry thing' gets to me but I don't always do it. If I 'eat in' then I get fries....but if I am taking it home - I don't. I don't like cold fries.....and I have chips at home to eat.
and while I don't buy the gossip mags...........I do buy hobby mags. .........if they have something that I will use in them. Doubt that I spend over $50 a year on them.

In my neighborhood, a Wendy's single combo meal costs $6. (Yeah, I know. New York prices are stiff.) But single, by itself, costs $3.79, and a medium soda by itself costs $1.69. Together, they're $5.48 before tax, or 51 cents cheaper if you forget the fries.
...Um, yeah, or you could spring the $1.29 for the fries and save yourself .91 by skipping the soda...
I'd rather drink water and walk away full than waste $1.69 on a bucket of ice and syrup and still be starving after lunch.

I can honestly say I don't do any of that!! So where is all my money? Oh Yeah, teenagers!! I forgot.
We have also gone back to the cheap salon w/ coupons and don't pay any banking fees except buying checks. But,even that is WAY less w/ online banking available.
