Unclaimed Property
Last night on the news, my state treasurer's office was doing a big push to get unclaimed property to their rightful owner's. Dh checked and he had a check from an old employer in 1998. The check was for $67.60 and he was really excited. Sadly, I didn't have anything.
So, I checked a friend's name and she had a credit balance from a doctor's office...turns out it was only $6.53, but you never know.
Here is a link to all of the different state's unclaimed property websites. NAUPA
Wouldn't it be neat if someone could find a small fortune? The news reported that someone claimed property worth $18,000 and that total property claimed during their newscast (over a 6 hour period) was over $170,000.

Also, make sure to check the names of your deceased relatives.
Sounds morbid, I know, but my mother-in-law found approximately $500 in unclaimed property of her father's, who had passed many years prior.McD

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

A man called my sister, who lives 2 miles away from me, last week about dads taxes, he died in 02, took years to get it all settled and now we have a 20,000 to 22,000 dollars coming back to us!! I am going to check that web site too.
