Thumbs up When's the last time you checked prices for trash removal?

We just did after we received another price hike from waste management, and found that we'd be saving $50 a quater if we switched to a local company. So today, bye-bye waste management, hello to $200 a year that we can use to pay down debt!

Just thought I'd mention it in case you haven't checked pricing lately, you might be able to save yourself some money.

I don't think we have any choice here.

You use Waste Management or take it to the dump yourself. But that is why I only use it for about 6 months a year. And it probably won't be that this year.

Don't think I have a choice in the city we're living here. But that's a very good tip to check on choice of garbage collector.

Our is private. We pay $69. x3= $207. This included recycling and in season grass and brush pick up. They put up w/ a lot from us. I think it's the best bargain around.
Also pretty much everyone uses them so all trash goes on the same day. We had 3 diff. companies picking up on 3 diff. days at one time. That was noisy and nasty. Not to mention blocking up the streets.

it's included in our taxes here (trash removal and recycling, though I'm a bit annoyed to see that they don't always pick up our recycling :hopmad: )

That's a great savings, Polly! Good thing you checked! It's funny, we have like five trash companies here to choose from. Kinda ridiculous why there need to be that many! I do compare from time to time and we seem to be getting the best deal out there, which is: $59.25 a quarter (just went up from $56.25). Just curious what does your local company charge there per quarter?

We don't have an option as our trash program is ran through the city. The monthly charge is included in the water bill and is a flat 10$ monthly fee that is not assessed sales tax. The charge covers weekly pickup, every other week recycling pickup, the maintaining and replacing of the bins they provide, as well as a yearly 'city-wide clean-up' event where they pick up big items.

We dropped Waste Management a long time ago, then dropped Allied when they kept raising rates. We went with a local company that charges $48/quarter for a good-sized wheelie bin and knows what the words "customer service" mean. They also handle the curbside recycling on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month but I think that's part of the $25/year recycling fee included in our property taxes. We also have a drop-off site for township residents to bring larger cardboard, styrofoam, appliances and tires to.

We did this last fall. We dropped Waste Management and went to a local company. Prices where much much lower. They also recycle curbside. Our Waste Management plan did not included recycables. We use to take them to a center in town.

The company takes alot more recycables then the center does. So it was a much better deal.

I've not lived in an area that had overlapping trash districts, but I personally would find it annoying for that very reason. I think it's better to have the city or township contract for an entire district, but include incentives to recycle.

I do not get a separate trash bill now, it's part of my tax bill. However where we used to live there were three price brackets: 1. as much as you want. 2. two bags with recycle bin. 3. a la carte bags with special tags.

We managed quite well with option 2 and a lot of empty nesters used option 3.

It sound pretty complicated. Ours is $2.50 per bag by means of a tag.
