Smile So proud of my son - He saved enough for a wii and bought it for the family

Buddy saved every penny to date in 2010 that he made or received from his January birthday, he didn't buy anything but saved it all for the Wii. That is 6 months of saving.

He bought it for the whole family to use. He made sure to buy two controllers so that others could play too. His bundle came with Wii sports and Wii Sports Resort.

Hubby bought the game Mario Cart with steering wheel for the family.

I 'm so proud that he saved his money and bought something for the family. Very unselfish of him.

What family fun games do you suggest?

Buddy wants to know what teenage boy games are great. Little Miss wants to know what fun girl games there are. It will take them awhile to save up enough so they want to know what is worth the cash.

I'm pretty sure she means...rent it at blockbuster to see if you like it before purchasing it. It's what we do for xBox 360 games. There have been some we thought we'd love and within minutes of playing, we hated. Glad we "previewed" them first.

    ~That is so nice!
The Mario Party games are fun to play as a family. And my kids love playing Wii Sports Resorts. 4 players can have accounts on Animal Crossing but you can't play at the same time. It's still a fun family game! We don't generally play games together since we all prefer role-playing games so I can't recommend too many family games. You can trade off turns playing role playing games like Paper Mario and anything in the Harvest Moon series.
Gamespot is an awesome resource for professional and user reviews and game news!
Remember too that Gamecube games play on the Wii(though you will need Gamecube controllers if you don't have any). We have a nice selection of those too and you can get them really cheap, secondhand, at Gamestop or online.~

When he bought his Wii at Gamestop he got an Edge card and that gives him points and extra 10% off used games and extra 10% when he sells used games.

It is also my understanding from when we bought used DS games there that when you buy a used game there if you beat it or don't like it within X amount of time (I think a week) that you can return it for a full refund in store credit. Is that correct?

Does animal crossing connect to the internet? How does that work with the Wii?

We like the new Super Mario Brothers game. All 4 of you can play the same level at once.

We have a stack of games that came in a Christmas, but rarely play anything except MarioKart. Now we just rent, usually a week is plenty of time to play and tire of a game.

~You'll do better 90% of the time selling your games on Ebay than trading them in. The only exception to this seems to be when they run a trade-in promotion tied to a new game release. Several times we've traded in clunker games not worth $10 on resale for more than they were worth towards the purchase of a new game.
I've never heard of the second promotion about a money back guarantee. I'll have to ask my hubby about that.
Animal Crossing, City Folk for Wii connects to the internet(high speed) through a wireless router. We already had one because DH is tech nerd and "needed" it for something so I can't tell you how much they are. But it was easy to set up. You can play with gamers all over the world online. They can come to your town and you can got to theirs. Some are really nice and give you cool stuff. Some people come to your town just to chop down your trees, steal your flowers or otherwise wreck your game. The microphone(WiiSpeak) and wireless keyboard are nice to have if you want to chat with whoever you're playing with. I personally wouldn't allow my kids to play online without me sitting right there because it's completely unfiltered content online. You really don't know who is befriending your kids and what information they may try to get out of them. Creeps me out.
You can also use the wireless router to access Wii's WiiWare through the Wii Menu. Then you can instantly download all kinds of cool games(new and retro games)for $5 and up. Some of our WiiWare includes the original Mario games, Bomberman, and Suduko.~

Oh my gosh, imagine you must be so proud right now and beaming! Buddy has done a wonderful thing.

I can't think of any games to recommend since I'm not a huge game player with the Wii. I like the Wii fit games b/c you feel like you're playing games not exercising (you'll need the Wii fit board). I also like Mario Party and Carnival Games. I'd read up on reviews on amazon to see if you'd find it interesting and try renting them first to see if its something you'd really like to purchase to have in your collection full time.

    Enjoy the Wii!

Yes, I am beaming. It was a wonderful thing. He sacrificed not spending any of this birthday money plus not spending any of his earned money for 6 months. That is a long time to save when you are 13. He planned and saved. That in itself I feel is a wow. Then to share it with the family. That is a big wow.

Of course we all remembered to say "thank you" to him, multiple times.

Off to give that boy a big hug.
