I use USCellular, they have a family plan with 2 phones, 550 minutes, unlimited texts, incoming calls and pics, as well as free nights and weekends for 59.99 plus taxes. Enter Location | U.S. Cellular Phones Plans Offers | U.S. Cellular

If you would pay the cancellation fee of your contract and then enroll on the TracFone prepaid Family Plan you will save at least $100 a month, which makes it worthwhile cancelling your current contract.
For the first phone you pay & 9.99/month, for 50 minutes and each additional phone gets 40 minutes for $5.99/month. Our TracFones in our family automatically receives their minutes every month and the credit card gets charged. There are no cancellation fee's and this is so convenient.

This is true, and something I'm working out little by little. If we cancel the phones one by one it would take a month or two but we totally would be saving money. I need to check around with prepaids and see what covers us... we live out in the sticks.

And texting is a huge thing, too. AND I'd LOVE to keep my current phone, I absolutely love it. Can I do that with prepaid?

Wow! I called Verizon about switching from contract plans to their prepaid plan. They said both phones will switch and to switch both it will cost about $300.

I hate paying that much but I'm really considering it because we use, like, 70 minutes per month... $7, plus the $10 unlimited text package... $34/mo instead of $120? WOW.

Yes. I think I might go into an actual store and see what they say, and see if they can somehow prorate it since I'm not leaving the company.

We use tracfones. We paid $ 30 each for the phones when we bought them, and the packages had a double minute lifetime card promotion included.
We buy the 60 minute cards for 3 months for $19.99 plus tax. Then that gets doubled for free. I go online and search for a promo code for bonus minutes just before I have to add more minutes. Usually I can find a code for 30 minutes. I now go online to add minutes at tracfone's web site. So for about $ 7 a month each, we have 50 minutes each month. We don't use that many minutes. Neither one of us uses text messaging. Almost 2 yrs now using tracfones and no complaints.

We do have a regular phone using Verizon, in the house because of my husband's job needing to get hold of him 24/7 during the winter. I also use the house phone for my DSL for the computer.

Check US Cellular, they are not in all markets, but they tend to have lower rates than many providers, and with free mobile to mobile minutes, you can generally go with the lowest minutes if your use is really mainly among family members. I have been happy with the quality.
