    Default Grad School!

So I found out that I have been accepted in to Grad school... yea!!! I'm super excited and start at the end of August. I will be continuing to work full time as a teacher during the day and will be paying cash for school as I go (no more student loans!!!). Things will definitely be tighter financially though.

For those of you who have been though the grad school experience: what frugal tips do you have? I know the basics-- buy used textbooks, avoid eating out before class, use fastweb to find scholarships etc but I KNOW you all probably have some GREAT suggestions! I can use all the help I can get!

Look at Amazon or even eBay for textbooks. Used textbook in town = $100 but might be found on Amazon for $25 or even less. Amazon allows for an ISBN search, and you can use that as an eBay keyword too.

Is applying for a fellowship or assistantship an option?

    Congratulations!

That's all I have to say....you'd have to ask my grad school son about frugality in that lifestyle. I know he's had to really tighten his belt.

What you've mentioned would be my advice, as well! Congrats to you! I loved Grad school and felt that I learned more with my two masters than I did in undergrad. What are you studying?

Look into teaching or being a school administrator in a Title I school and you can have some of your loan money paid back. Teaching special education can also give you some loan repayment.

Congratulations! I just relocated to Chicago to start a program for an M.A. in Sociology. Here are my tips:

-Do your research and contact your program coordinator about resources, events, and freebies available to students on campus. My tuition isn't cheap so I am banking on all the stuff my tuition pays for by getting dvd's at the library, reduced prices with my student ID (I got a free bike and a discounted Ulock this way) and using the gym. Check your school's calendar to see any upcoming events that might be worth attending.

-Amazon.com has a deal now for students that gets you free shipping (Prime) for a year- you just need a student email address.

-Check with your cellphone company to see if your school qualifies you for a discount. My old school didn't, but my new school gets me a 15% discount or so on my verizon bill.

If you come across anything, let me know!
