Energy savings question
We invested in 2 netbooks for homeschooling. Nothing fancy, as minimal cost as possible(we do get school funding for this so it is refunded, regardless).
I am wondering, is it more efficient to run the computers without the charges, when low, charge them, then unplug again when charged? The charger has a light on it, so it is constantly using power, even if the netbook is fully charged.
I am curious to see what the change in power bill will be, as these are replacing 2 desktops(bought used for cheap). The kids were forgetting monitors on, or speakers. These are turned off when not in use, period, as to protect from overheating.

I would apply the frugal motto - if you're not using it, unplug it. Leaving the laptop plugged in constantly affects (shortens) the battery life.

I would keep it plugged in when you are using it, if possible. I doubt you'd see any difference in energy consumption vs using and just plugging it in just to charge the battery.

The netbook will use much less electricity than a PC. I also can't remember where I read it, but I read that it is better to keep it plugged in while you are using it IF possible.
I am not sure if this pertains to a netbook, but it pertains to laptops. What shortens the life of the battery is the heat the machine produces while running. We have one of those fans that you put under the laptop to help keep it cool.Mary
