Default Do you cut your own hair?

I am seriously considering having a go at it. My husband and I are very poor at the present time. He is a full time college student and I am disabled. While I only NEED a haircut every 3 months, I wear it short and it cost me 20 to 25 each time. It's just not in the budget this fall. I am (gasp) thinking of trimming it up myself. I tell myself to not be such a chicken and just do it, because, after all hair will grow back. Would you have the nerve?

I keep my hair short as well and I cut and color my own hair. I also cut DH's and the boy's hair as well. I am like you --- it will grow back. I usually get DS#2 to even up the back for me because I can't quite get it even by myself. We usually get cuts every other month and it saves us $$$ throughout the year. That is something I usually do not budget for because I do it.

I have been cutting the whole family's hair including mine for years. Like you said it grows back. I usually get one of the kids or dh to check if I got the back even.

I've cut my hair many times myself. I cut my youngest ds and dh keeps his head shaved (I have clippers). Oldest ds (who is fixing to be 19 gets his hair cut about ever 2 or 3 mths at the beauty shop It cost 9.00. I get my hair cut some at beauty shop. I got a cut about 3mths ago and i've not been back. I also color my own hair. It saves a ton of money. It will grow back.

I'm going against the grain here. I cut my bangs and do a horrible job at that! in the summer I give my son and ex husband both buzz cuts, but thats easy. I would never try to cut my own hair!

Do you have a girl friend that can help you? Is there a beauty school around? alot of times you can get your hair cut by the students for a fraction of the cost.

But saying all this, I do have to laugh because just this Saturday I got a hair cut, first one since the beginning of summer and sure enough, $25 for the cut and $5 for the tip so I can totally understand you wanting to try it yourself.

    Good luck!

I have to be an oddball here and say, not a chance! There are just some things I leave to the pros, and cutting our hair is one of them. I am not willing to take the chance of screwing it up. And I WOULD screw it up, badly!

~DH is a CPA for a major insurance company in an executive position. He has to lead his employees by example and cannot go to work looking rough because I messed his hair up.

~The school DS attends has a strict policy on hair. If the student's hair is not cut within the guidelines set forth in the handbook, the student has five days to remedy the situation. If after five days the hair is not within the guidelines, the student is given a suspension until the hair is fixed. Yes, he usually keeps his pretty close to a buzz, but about twice a year he grows it out to a "normal" cut. His hair grows remarkably fast, on average over an inch a month. He has to have a cut at least every four weeks.

~DD's hair grows slow as molasses. Just don't want to chance messing her style up since it would take forever to grow back, even if it were just an inch cut off.

~Me, well I am a girl and my hair is a big thing to me. I would be mortified if it were messed up and had to be cut shorter than I like.

I haven't had my hair cut in over 2.5 years and when I do finally take the plunge I'll let the pro's do it. Hubby has offered to use some tools in his workshop to do my hair but somehow that idea doesn't thrill me.
I do hubby's hair with the oster raycine electric hair trimmer we bought years ago, good investment. I just clip in the attachment & drive it around, take off the clip to shave the neck area. Easy.

I cut my on with clippers and a #4 guard. Of course I am a guy and simple haircuts are acceptable for us.

I would wait and try it after the holidays. You don't want to have to explain to all of your families the reason your hair looks awful.

If you need a cheap cut look for Cosmetology schools nearby, sometimes they offer free or almost free cuts.

I will trim my own bangs when I have a style that the bangs are not blended into the top of my head.....

I cut the boys' hair and trim my daughters bangs.

I cut my bangs once in college. It was a very traumatic experience.

So much so that I haven't had bangs since then.

Thus, I would not cut my own hair or that of my family.

The boys get their hair cut at a discount hair place ( so about $25 with tip total for both of them) they get it cut about every 6 to 8 weeks.

Little Miss and I get our hair trimmed on average 2 twice a year. Some years only once.

Yes, I do. I don't cut everyone's hair in my family though. My husband has a job to keep after all!!!

I keep my hair quite short (depending on my mood). Before I "took the plunge" I did some googling and watched youtube videos on cutting your own hair.

While in the process of building up the courage to cut my own hair, I needed a hair cut. I went to the salon and they used a razor to cut my entire do. After that, I promptly headed over to Sally's Beauty Supply and picked up a razor set. It's like this one: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Personna-Pirouette-Shaper-Texturizer-BP9100/dp/B0002MSGXE/ref=sr_1_1?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285619530&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Personna Pirouette Hair Shaper Texturizer Razor Kit BP9100: Gateway@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41KE33CF56L.@@AMEPARAM@@41KE33CF56L[/ame] It's paid for itself. I've cut my own hair since then.

I also invested in some thinning shears (at wal-mart for about $6). I already had some nice cutting shears.

Hubby keeps begging me to cut his hair and I am terrified. I will give a go the next time he needs a hair cut.

I get mine cut for $16.95 and manage to wait and do it about every 2-1/2 - 3 months and I can walk there. Plus I get a free cut every 11th time. I used to pay $24 and had to drive 10-15 miles.

I take to much pride in my hair. A couple months ago I decided to give myself some long bangs. They turned out shorter than I wanted and are starting to be the length I want. The hairdresser at first just made a comment. I told her what I did. She said next time just come in. The last time I saw her when they were longer she made a comment that she liked it. I said see was a good idea after all.

Needless to say I have to remember to stop myself when I think I can cut my hair. I just budget it in to have my hair done. For me it is my one splurge for myself.

I did cut my dogs hair after watching people do it at PetSmart. It actually came out alright.
