"New Lower price" yeah right ( roll eyes here)
I was looking at the frozen veggies at the grocery store we normally get them at. Today they had a "new lower price" $1.49 for 12 oz. New lower price!?
Several weeks ago we use to be able to get them for $1 with the store card and on sell for 88 cents with the store card.
The new lower price tags are showing up all over the store and they don't have a lower price for the store card like they use to.
The new lower prices might be lower then the "price" was but they definitely aren't lower then the store card price was."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

My son's place of employment was doing the same thing in a way. One week they had the employees change all the price tags on the shelves to a much higher price, the following week they had them change the shelf tags to a lower price, but not lower then the original price. (the price Before the rise) That way when they claimed to lower X amount of prices in the store, technically they were not lying.

Technically, they aren't lying. That is true.
When my children say "Technically I wasn't lying" I say "Sure you weren't lying but you sure where trying to be deceitful."
I do think what you described above is common though. All the more reason to know your prices."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I am a Mod ( not paid...lol) for a major coupon board, and I am wondering if You mean Krogers? That was the price last week for the Mega Sale for frozen veggies. Now the sale is for Mega sale ( general sale not frozen anymore) and if you wanted good prices you would have to match coupons with the new sale items. I don't coupon much anymore but there are deals to be found. But with that said like I and others have been saying prices are rising and food packages are shrinking.
Sorry
that things are rising for everyone. At least gardening and farmers market times are coming soon which will help with fresh and prices. Also thought I would add many are saying the corporations have been taking the hits on rising commodities and now passed on to consumers yet. Now we are seeing that happen, as well as more to come in general. Know your prices, cherry pick, shop loss leaders, coupon, hit the sales, stock up when low prices or on sale, freeze, can , dehydrate and cook from scratch as much as you can.

On the flip side Aldi's frozen corn price did go down in price.
They accidentally had two prices 89 cents and 65 cents for frozen corn. I was expecting the higher price "since prices are rising" and the other store did raise their prices but found out the new price was down to 65 cents. ALDI - new low prices
I know where I will be getting my frozen corn! Way better price then the other store"Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

It was at a store that is part of the kroger franchise.
We could always get them for $1 with the store card though until this week. It didn't even have the store card price just one price.
Are they getting rid of some of the non sale price deals with the store card. You know one price except if it is on sale.
Kroger is getting less and less of my business. To high priced even on Mega Sales. Not bad with coupons that double though."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I think they all do this to some extent.
Knock the price down a penny or two, just to put a SALE sign on the shelf.
but just think of how many people BELIEVE it.
If it's in print, it must be true.... right?

Kroger has been doing those pricing changes for about six months now. I've been noticing it especially with their store brands. The frozen veggies were regular priced at .88, then they go "on sale" as part of the 10/$10 ($1.00) and after a few weeks of being on sale suddenly the new low price is more than $1. But, they are not the only store as Walmart is notorious for raising prices before they "rollback" the price on sale.
Marketers are aware that shopping is for a lot of people a psychological/emotional thing rather than logical. They count on price tag overload among their shoppers and the studies that people will compare prices among items next to each other but not to historical prices.
There isn't much I can do other than just watching and getting things at the best price I can. I just don't think tomorrow's best price is going to be as low or lower than todays. I've got my garden planned out and know I will be using the farmer's market a lot more for seasonal produce to freeze for next winter.Amy

Yes, there really is not a lot to be done except know your prices and start planning on a big garden. I know I'll be seeking out different Amish farmers next year. The prices this past Summer were way high.

I'm afraid that the only way to really beat this is to grow and preserve your own all Summer long. I'm finding it doubtful that store prices will be coming down in relation to paychecks.~~~

That's how the local mom and pop's pricing goes. Some products are just too expensive there but the meats and produce are fresher and cheaper. Like 18 cent lb banana day on Thursdays.
I usually go to Aldi's biweekly for a stock up. I try to shop Dollar Tree monthly for toiletries and consumable household stuff.
I can usually pick up frozen veggies for $1/16oz, sometimes 12oz. It's hard to find cauliflower though.
As far as Wally World pricing goes, the prices just keep creeping up on every single item. It's just cheaper to save 35 to 50 cents or more on every single item and stalk up on stuff at Aldi's biweekly. I just fill in as needed from the Mom and Pop chain in my suburb.

Nothing to do but know your prices...........I take my time at home 'shopping the ads' before I go to the store. That way I don't 'panic buy' when I THINK something is a good price.
I mark on the ads what I want and take them with me....try not to stray much from the ads.

I'm curious. If you froze your own corn, would it be as cheap/cheaper than the $1/lb? The farmstand where I worked had corn for $5/bakers dozen. I don't know the yield on 13 ears of corn, but I wonder if buying from a farmer/freezing it might not be the way to go?
Of course, growing your own will be cheapest, but I don't have the room to grow a lot of corn....
Anyone?

CANNING CORN, from the http://www.pickyourown.org/howtocancorn.htm
QUOTE- According to the USDA, about 32 pounds (in husk) of sweet corn is needed per canner load of 7 quarts; an average of 20 pounds is needed per canner load of 9 pints. Note that a bushel weighs 35 pounds and yields 6 to 11 quarts of canned corn, which is an average of 4½ pounds of corn in the husks per quart of finished canned corn.- unquote.
FREEZING CORN,
How to freeze your own corn from corn-on-the-cob (directions, recipe, with photos and free)
And I so far, have not found a yield amount for the corn by freezing it. I was curious myself so I just done a search.
Last summer we grew quite a bit of corn ourselves. What we couldn't eat fresh, went into the freezer in ziploc bags. Bagged so they would stack flat. Then his boss gave us corn, we just had to go to his farm field and pick it. That gave us a large quanity. Some went in the freezer on cobs whole.
There are a lot of different varieties of sweet corn. Some have bigger ears than other kinds. So the yield would be different.
We paid $ 11 a pound for seed corn last year in early spring for the garden. Then the end of season, I was able to buy seed corn at half price a pound, so now I have some ready to go for this spring coming. I hope hubby spaces it out this time. He did different groups, but a lot came ready at once.
Corn does take space for planting. If you plant 2 different varieties, you want 300 ft between them, so they don't cross pollinate.
