My dog. Adopted from the local shelter....160.00, included spay, shots, microchip. She has pulled me out of my depression and I am now off meds. I walk her two miles EVERY day and it has done wonders for my health.

For me...INTERNET is first on my list! =) It allows me to learn TONS of things...from frugal to school to home care...saves me trips. I can put in for free samples, coupons, etc. Love it!! =) Not to mention cheap entertainment (hulu, netflix, youtube, etc.).

Have to add: library card, crock pot, ereader (free books, plus epubs to check out from library and no driving!), sewing machine, knitting needles/crochet hooks (make gifts inexpensively and have some creative entertainment).

Okay, can I have more than one favorite? hehehe

I skimmed the posts so maybe I missed it but I treasure this forum!! My family and friends have learned to bite their tongues about my frugal habits (thrift shopping, meal planning, using coupons/tracking sales, etc) but to them, I'm "a bit weird". They just don't understand the things I do and are unable to offer advice/encouragement when it comes to a frugal lifestyle. Visiting this forum reminds me there are other like-minded people in the world and keeps me motivated. I can call on forum members for tips and rant when I feel overwhelmed. The advice given is sometimes stern but I have never felt like members were talking down to me or being abusive, which I definitely felt at other sites I no longer visit.

The internet is helpful when trying to be frugal but having a forum like this...well, it's priceless!!

I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)

I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!

    2012 Financial goals
    • make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
    • pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
    • bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
    • avoid lifestyle inflation
    • improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork

    The Financial Goals I've achieved:
increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

OK I've got a "few" faves LOL

*my electric teapot ~which I use daily
    *our charcoal griller
*our new windows (b/c I CAN NOW open my windows w/o bugs coming in YAY!!!)
*our pantry/deep freezer (as we can not only use this for us but help out others in need)
*DH's ability to fix just about anything & anything he can't fix ~ we either have someone in the family or know someone who can help either for free or almost so
    *Internet
*apple tv (I hardly ever watch "real tv" anymore)
*& of course my trusty recipe book that I made for myself that has all of our family's fave recipes & any new ones I want to try... if I like the recipe it stays in the cookbook, if not I throw it out & write myself a not on the book page where it came from that we didn't like it!

I know you said one... like I can just do one.. lol

Oh & I almost forgot! sorry gotta add this one!
DH works for the cable/phone company & so he gets a fantastic discount... about $50/month for 3 dvr's, a phone line, wireless internet & the works (including movie channels) for cable. Gotta love that!!!

My frugal treasures: My library card as well, the local park system ( so many free activities to do as well as free state beaches in the summer), my cookbook collection, my garden, and my clothesline!

Another vote for my internet connection - it's the one thing I spare no expense on (besides medical care). I can't begin to list how many ways it saves me time and money.

The most frugal treasure? That would be my library card. It doesn't cost a cent and gives me access to all the information I could get on the Net, but at the cost of $50/mth. So the library card wins hands down.

Other frugal favs? My chest freezer, my cold room to store food, my sewing machine.

gosh, guess i have to add me too...library card...

dh works a ton so i am thankful my handyman who is only $10/hr and does just about anything i need done.

clothesline in bsmnt laundry and my drying rack. love them both! hang most stuff..not towels, sheets or underwear though...then just fluff on air setting w/ 1/3 of a dryer sheet. saves $$$...

chest frzr in bsmnt is wonderful! stock up on bread, etc..
