We get the same thing up here with grocery stores. A lot of time they have in-store unadvertised specials, which makes it really difficult to plan your shopping. I just make it a habit of visiting at least two of the chains every shopping day. Makes for a longer trip, but can yield pleasant surprises. Like roast beef 50% off at Sobey's.
What I wish would happen is that we'd have some competition with fabric stores! We have two quilt shops and one general fabric store in town. The quilt shops just have their noses in the air and charge whatever they want and people buy it. The general fabric store has no selection, despite being quite large. I am having a hard time finding appropriate notions for garments. And certain colours of fabric are just impossible to find at certain times of year.
And forget finding a good quality felt anywhere in town!

Boy I'd love to see the stores around here start to fight for my dollars. *grins*

When I don't like the sales at either Fred Meyers or Safeway (the stores where I can go to use my coupons), I take my precious shopping dollars to Grocery Outlet, which is always a fun adventure because you never know what they might have! This is where the price book really comes into play, because not everything at Grocery Outlet is cheaper than the regular store sale prices with coupons.
Last weekend, when I went to Fred Meyer's, I noticed that they are no longer allowing you to stack store coupons and manufacturer coupons!!!
