Default Finally had a frugal breakfast for DH's work.

Every Friday at DH's work, the people in his department alternate bringing breakfast in. Each person only has to do it once every couple of months, so it's not terribly expensive or anything like that.

However, DH tends to tell me at the last minute when it's his turn. Usually the evening before his turn. I hate it because it means I have to get up at 5 in the morning to cook a huge breakfast. And I usually have to run to the store the night before for ingredients. His coworkers actually request my potatoes, but I haven't made them in a while.

Yesterday, as usual, he told me it was his turn on the phone as he was leaving work. As I posted before I have an abundance of eggs and bread right now, so my mind went right to a baked french toast idea. I did some searching and found this:

Cinnamon Baked French Toast | The Pioneer Woman Cooks | Ree Drummond

I actually had all of the ingredients on hand for this one, so I didn't have to pay out of pocket for it. I did need to get some extra milk, though.

    Bought:
Almond Milk: (Ended up paying me $1.70 after coupon.)
    Bananas: $1.59
    6 Yogurts: Free with coupons
    Juice: $2.50
    Syrup: $2.49
    Total spent: $4.88

Last time DH brought breakfast he spent $40 on sandwiches and stuff at Chick-fil-A. The time before that he spent almost $30 on breakfast burritos from a mexican place. I'm glad it didn't cost us that much this time!! Never again!

im glad that u were able to use up what was on had and do it on the cheap .. but either dh writes when its his turn on the kitchen calander(sp) or he can cook it himself..

its inconsiderate and unfair to spring this on u at the last minute..

I agree! I occasionally bug him to tell me when his turn in, but supposedly they only make the list once each quarter, so I have to wait until then to get an answer from him. And I think he switched his day with someone because I was sure his turn was next week. He is too nice sometimes, at my expense of course.

Can you ask whoever sets up the schedule to be put on the email list so you can have advanced notice? I'm sure that they would be willing to help out since they make requests of your recipes.

This last minute stuff wouldn't happen too often here as Greebo would be using his fun money to make it happen. hehehe

Ooh, that's a great idea. Thanks! Now to figure out who is in charge of the breakfast schedule...

This recipe has been favourited. My SO absolutely loves french toast and he loves anything with cinnamon in it - so this will be a winner. Thanks for sharing.

Also, Ceashels idea is a brilliant one!

If you look up 'breakfast sausage strata' on a search engine, you'll find you'll like this one. It has bread, milk, eggs, sausage, cheese and a few spices. You make it the night before and it has to sit in the fridge overnight. Just plop it into the oven for a little over an hour and it's done. I don't know what time you get up and when your DH has to leave for work, this could work.

This could definitely work. With the one I made I let it soak overnight and then woke up at 5:30 to pop it in the oven. My DH had to leave by 6:30am on Fridays, but it's definitely doable. I will try that out next time.

Try thinking about ingredients you always have on hand and then write out a list of what you could make for breakfast. That way if you are given a short notice you know what you can make something quickly and easily.
