    Default Pawn Shops

Anyone have good luck with them? I have a gold ring and an electric guitar that gets no use. Is it a huge hassle? Not worth it?

    TIA

We buy but never have sold. DH got my replacement diamond ring there. I have bought dvd and cd's there. I have always been satisfied but have never sold.
I figure you would prob. fare better having a garage sale. If you just have 1 or 2 items though? Maybe.
    Check out Ebays stores too?

I don't think a pawn shop is going to give you much money for your items. Their intention if you don't come back for the items is to resell them. You also can sell to them outright. Either way, you won't get a lot.

If you have a lot of items, you could have a garage sale.
Keep the ring on your finger though.

Craigslist ad. Be careful of scammers. You also can barter on there if there is something you would like to swap for.

Or a ad in classifieds in your paper.

We have a few local dealers who will buy precious metals but are only paying scrap melted down price.

Ebay might be worth checking out. Current promotion is 50 free auctions a month at any start price. However, now the final value fee is 9 % of ended price.....PLUS 9 % of the postage. Then paypal gets 35 cents to do the money transaction PLUS 3 % of the sold price and 3 % of the postage costs.

If you don't want the ring, take it to a jeweler that buys gold.

I have no experience with pawn shops (other than the show Pawn Stars). But my aunt is convinced that every single pawn shop in existence is a front for the Mob.

I say keep the ring unless you are in dire straights for money right now. Gold is going for over 1500.00 an oz right now. And only projected to go higher. There may be dips here and there but if the dollar tanks you will be glad you kept the ring. Silver, if you have any is something to hold onto right now also.

As for the guitar some other means than a pawn shop may bring in the most money.

I wouldn't sell the ring at a pawn shop. A guy I know sold his wedding band and was only given $50 for it and it had diamonds in the band. As far as the guitar goes, craigslist would probably be a better idea.

You might try a for sale ad at one of the local music shops. Perhaps they have a bulletin board.

Yes, but take it to more than one. The first quote I received was $325 but the second was $675! Guess which one I took?

You might want to try advertising the guitar in the classifieds of the newspaper...or put a poster up at the local music school/studio (or place that teaches music). Maybe even a poster on the local grocery store bulletin board would do it.
