How long could you live without......
having to work? CJ, has really inspired me with her DH being out of work and them still going strong. It made me start thinking, if something happened to "our" jobs, what would we do? How long could we make it? I don't think we could live past one month.
What about you?
Just to let you know, CJ you are my inspiration!

Probaly three months, TOPS. We could eat longer, but the bank would be knocking on our door after that, wanting the door (and the whole house!) back!

Hmmm well without cashing an RRSP (IRA) I guess about 2 months. We have a fairly well stocked pantry. We have been working on our emergency account now for about one year. We put away $200 every month and we will keep doing it in the new year.

Good question! Dh and I were just discussing this the other day. Probably about 6 months due to money we have put away and if we tried REALLY hard, probably 8-10.

No more than a month! Makes you want to start preparing for something like that, doesn't it? I should really start an emergency savings, and start stocking my pantry again.

The bad news is, we recently found out how long we could go. DH was out of work for a few months, and due to circumstances that are too long to explain here, he was unable to collect unemployment benefits for the past 4 months. I am a SAHM.
The good news is, we were fine. We made some lifestyle adjustments, but we were thrifty anyway, so we didn't have to make a ton of changes......I am sure that our kids didn't notice any change in their lives.
We still have money left, and could have gone for another 6 months before we had to raid our retirement savings. If health insurance wasn't so expensive, we could have gone for longer, but at $700/month, that was a real savings buster.
He has finally found a job, but we don't plan to really change too much from how we've been living the past few months. We discovered that most of the stuff we've been living without, we don't miss, so why spend money on it?

I would say a year or longer. We have money put away "just in case" something like that happens.
But our house and vehicles are paid for.
