    Red face Shame on me

I have to confess a Shame on me moment. I should not have been judging.

One friend is always complaining about their lack of money. I was not being very sympathetic because she sent her children to camp.
I found out later that her daughter received that year the same scholarship to camp that my daughter received this year.
The giver of the scholarship requested that we not mention receiving the the scholarship to others as she wants to keep anonymous so she can pick her scholarship receivers instead of people asking for the scholarship.
My friend could not tell me that camp was on scholarship just like I can't tell others.

I wonder how many people are falsely thinking the same thing of me that I thought of her?

To make matters worse I also judged her again. Her daughter was wearing a very nice dress and I was thinking about the cost that dress must have been. My daughter asked where they bought the beautiful dress. They said "It was a hand me down from you" It was one that Little Miss had received as a hand me down but didn't get to wear as it was already outgrown. It reminded us of this girl so we had passed it down. It had taken her a while to grow into it so we had forgotten about the dress.

    yes shame shame on me

Don't be too hard on yourself. We are human. Just remember next time. My kids go to camp and other things on scholarship, we have hand me downs, etc and I've probably thought, "Geesh, here they come with McDonald's again." I have no way of knowing why they have it but my gut reaction is not nice. Thanks for the reminder.

Quite true we don't know all the fact of others. We don't know the "sacrifices" they make to afford the things they do.

It was quite a reminder to me not to judge.

I am from a family of people who judge. I hate it and have been working on not doing it my entire adult life.

The trouble with judging is that we don't always know all the facts.

We are all guilty of this at some point I believe.

I look at what some of the younger guys spend on their trucks and wonder how much their CC debt is. Then they bring me down from my high horse when they mention they have no CC debt, it's paid off every month. I never say anything directly to them so they don't know they kicked me, but it's a good reminder not to judge.

And aren't we glad that those those kicks are not known?

    I sure am.

That's very true - often we can't know all the facts when we are making assumptions. I am from a similar family and also try to avoid falling into the trap of judging people.

Surrounded by it all my life, as well. I catch myself at it constantly.

Thank you for the reminder, Imagine.

I know I need reminders - and that just brings out the humanness - glad we can all learn!!

I've done that, too... I think we all have.... even though it's actually a pet peeve of mine when others do it to us. There are some people in our life who make snide comments about how "rich" we are, without seeing the behind-the-scenes thrift shopping, coupon clipping, overtime working, and everything else we do to maintain the lifestyle we enjoy.

Don't fret. You were dazzled by the ideas but now that you know maybe the next time you'll remember this time. Remember--we are human.

I have done this too many times and had people judge me too many times. Now I always try to take a step back and look at other possibilities besides what I see on the surface. You really just don't know other people's situations. Congrats to your dd for getting a scholarship. My dd got one this year from the PTA for summer camp. Her teacher nominated her. Without she wouldn't be going to summer camp at all, so I am so grateful!

We are very grateful too. And without it she wouldn't be going to camp either.

I hope both of our girls have a grand camp experience.

Although I am a bit nervous that if she loves it she might want to go again another year. Not sure what we will do then.
