Default Free meals for children in the summer

Don't forget as summer time draws near that many school provide (and a few other places) serve free breakfast and lunch. Where I live they have done this for several years. The first time I heard of it was when my oldest was a baby, I was teaching at the time.

Here the breakfast in continental and lunch is a hot lunch. The students can pick up a menu so they know what lunch will be.

They are required to feed and child birth to 18 that shows up. No income checks or qualifications. You so up you are fed.

So if you know some children that might need to eat pass on the information.

Would you still use this if it was near you and you could afford to feed your kids well over the summer?

My kids are grown & gone but...I think this is great! They get to eat a good meal, socialize with other kids, & breaks up the day. Can the parent eat too, for a minimal fee? If I was a parent & was able to get there, I would be grateful for it & use it.

Parents can eat to for a fee. Whatever covers the cost of the meal generally. I think we paid under $5. Less than a happymeal and more nutritious.

Where I live Lunch follows the school lunch rules. So one protein, two straches, one veggie, one fruit, and a carton of milk.

Ours are here at set up at the schools so generally with in walking distance. here.

my local one will be closed this year so we will have to walk father, if we go.

Yes to an extent. Often we take or met people that we know need to get the food. They sometimes are reluctant to go the first time as they don't know what to expect.

Some parent friends and I take our children to eat there from time to time and we chat with the children that take themselves there. They seem to enjoy chatting with a grown up they know. The lunch worker seem to enjoy us being there too.

I generally do not eat the meal just company my children there. Although I have been known to splurge on a pizza or hamburger day.

Our local city park not only does the free lunches at the park, but have an entire park program that goes from 10-5 for ages 6 and up for free. My daughter works for the program, and the youngest will be attending the program.

Where my Sister lives the churches take turns for a meal a day to provide food for the poor. In the Summer they step it up and provide both lunch and supper each taking their turn. It's a inter-denomination collaboration of sorts. None of the schools here provide meals during the Summer.
