I try to buy bread at Kroger when it's 4 for $5 and throw it in the freezer. We go thru quite a bit of bread and I like to have extra on hand.

The good news is I am really stocked up on BBQ sauce

We need to be even more creative with our shopping and menus. I think this situation is only get worse. I am horrified at the price of meat and chicken especially.

Shopping is painful here right now too (Southern Ontario). Milk, the only thing that I buy weekly, is up to $4.50 a gallon (4 L). Everything else, I try to only shop the sales. I now just replenish my stockpile. It's NOT exciting but it's food. We have also become vegetarian, partly for the economics of it, and I am growing my first garden.

If we fight this as much as we can, we can still win the grocery store battle.

I've also noticed the sales for stocking up are
    getting fewer and further between.

It seems like everything went up .50... and the sales don't seem to be as good. Kids are still in school for 2 more weeks so I still need lunch box items.

That is what I am seeing too. This week I have only seen good sales on BBQ sauce... that's only good if you have something to put it on

The only things at Kroger this week are eggs ($1.25 for a dozen) and Al Fresco Chicken Sausage which I can get for $1.99 with a coupon I have.

I do a major grocery shopping trip once a month 'cause my dh gets paid once a month and the total is usually over $400. I guess that really isn't horrible for a family of five with three of the five being boys and two of those three are teenagers. We do go back a few times during the month some to get milk and cereal. We get free eggs from our chickens, but chicken feed jumped up a couple of dollars in the last few months. I have people asking to buy eggs so we're selling all of our extras. I have a tiny garden and my parents have one so I hope to add a few meals from that. My parents are good to us and buy extra food for my oldest who is 19 and eats everything in the house. They'll also ask us over occasionally for dinner and take the kids out for food. If they didn't help us I don't know what we'd do. Some months we go a little short toward the last week of the month before dh gets paid.

I get physically ill every time I buy groceries...not joking. Dh says it's because of the prices. I buy the kids snacks and stuff like microwaveable chicken tenders and stuff like that, but we don't eat out much so I cook most meals. I get scared thinking that our food won't last, but if worst comes to worse, I have a stockpile that we can pull from. It's not big though and I try to replace anything we use from it and buy extra when I can. It also terrifies me to think of the people in our country that are going to starve if things keep going on as they do.

I feel the pain too. I've focused back on buying whole ingredients and not buying many foods just because we like them, if could eat something simpler instead.

Just thought of one helpful thing though: bar cream cheese is cheaper than tub cream cheese. I buy the bars and put them in my own tubs (saved from lunch meat (and washed!!)) for easy use. I've seen the store brand bars go on sale for $1/bar at every store I've shopped at, and even regular price is well under $2.

That is how I felt today.... actually a little like crying...

Yes, I should buy the bar of cream cheese. Hadn't thought of moving it to a different container. It seems to go moldy really fast when I have bought the bars in the past. I will have to try that next time
