Default I watched Extreme Couponing last night.

2K of food for a negative balance put on a gift card?

Seriously...who needs 93 bottles of hot sauce or 150 boxes of instant couscous mix in their stockpile just because?

I get having stuff stored. But a lot this woman's stuff just seemed to be overkill. 600 packages of candy? I don't know if I have eaten 600 packages of candy in my lifetime.

Yup, I thought the same thing about having all those items in your house. It did seem as if many people donate their items to people in need.

Also have to say that I have two closets dedicated mostly to stockpiling. Right now I have less of what I normally keep.

Have to admit getting something for free really can be fun when you are counting pennies. But I make sure to only purchase an item that I would use or someone else would.

That's disgusting. If I hoarded like that I'd be too embarrassed to talk about it on national TV.

Nothing like teaching the kids one should have TONS of candy on stock at all times....my house is candy free except after certain holidays, and then it's eaten in moderation...I think we still have a few big choc. bunnies left from my 2 kids from Easter!

I haven't seen that particular ep yet, and while I think 600 packages of candy is excessive if for personal use, I'm starting to think it would be useful to have that amount of free candy for Halloween time. Between Halloween parties and the actual trick-or-treating (especially if you're in an active area with plenty of children), I can see going through that amount quite easily...not to mention the bonus of being the "cool" neighbor giving out full-sized candy.

Of course, when you say 'packages', I'm picturing individual bars/bags of candy you get by the registers. If you meant 600 of the display boxes they put out to sell the individual bars/bags of candy at the registers, then yeah, that's pretty hardcore.

wow. I wonder if some of those people that get a ginormous amount of stuff have some type of shopping addiction that they focus on getting all those things for free.

I'm all for stockpiling when things are on sale and when I have coupons- but I try to only buy what we can use before it goes bad

If I had 600 packages of candy in this house, i'd take up all my time trying to peel my kids off the ceiling. no thanks. That's just obscene! It seems mostly like a waste of time and energy to coupon like that. Why take time to coupon to feed your family all this junk food, when you could take time to prepare things from scratch and eat healthy cheaply? I find my time is better invested in things like baking bread than trying to get a hamburger helper for free. Just my opinion. families can't live on candy bars and hot sauce alone... lol

Eh, we always have some form of candy in the house and 9 times out of 10, Dubya always asks for a healthy snack.

We've educated him along the way about healthy snacks/treats and the concept of 'moderation'.

But then, what food bank wants or needs 100s of jars of mustard/hotsauce/whatever condiment these people always seem to buy excessively?

These people are collectors and hoarders, for the most part. It's not really about saving money--it's about the conquest of getting stuff free and then having it all lined up and pretty at home--like their own little grocery store.

I don't see how they can use that many coupons for one item. Here you can get one item like if mayo on sale and with coupon was free you could only buy one. I don't know how they get things like that. I haven't seen any real good coupons for a while here.

I have noticed that as well and wonder. I mean I stocked up a few months ago and purchased 6 bottles of A-1 (keep in mind its just me, my cat and sometimes my BF eats with me) but some times they just go way overboard.

I think a good portion of that is just to be on the show.

I think the show and the stores they're filming at have an agreement that allow such obscene amouts be purchased. BECAUSE of the show many of the stores that did not have limits now do.
