Default School supply sales have started

Money saving mom blogged about the 50 cents Staples deals

Staples: Back-To-School Deals for the week of July 3-9, 2011 :: Money Saving Mom®

And some comments to the post said their local staples didn't have 50 cents sale but $1 sale.

So you remember when staples had penny deals?

I am a bit nervous about what kind of sales there will be this year. My supply of school supplies is low as I did not feel there were many good deals last year.

What do you think one should consider a rock bottom stock up good deal price this year?

They were putting all that stuff out at Target on Sunday when I was in there with my 12 year old and she was NOT amused. LOL. Dont know what the prices will be but my older dd needed a regular old spiral notebook last week and we ran to CVS. For a one subject no frills notebook it was over 4.00. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Ran across the street to Walgreens and got one on sale for 2.79. If there is a sale like last year which was .25 a notebook at Target I will be getting at least a case. Maybe two cases. It doesn't seem like there is ever enough pencils either. I buy boxes and boxes and dole them out all year long as needed and there still isn't enough. So when I find the cheapest ones I am buying alot. Then there is the glue. My kids are older and I always think we wont need it and don't get much and then I can't find it so I am stocking that as well. Walmart usually does a great marker sale and I'm buying a few boxes of those as well since they always seem to have a map that needs colored or something. I always laugh at my oldest daughter because she LOVES to buy school supplies. It's the school part of it she hates. I always tell her I wish she liked using the supplies as much as she likes buying them.

on this blog Walmart: School Supplies On Sale & A Few Other Steals Passionate Penny Pincher

the lady said "Heading to Walmart to grab a few sparklers for the 4th? As you go, be sure to check out their school supply bins. (It really can’t be that time of year yet, can it?) Watch for 24 packs of crayons, glue, and glue sticks all priced at $.40."

They were 25 cents last year. I believe. So you think this will be the rock bottom price?

Just logged on to Staples.com and pulled up my local store. The ads have NO school supplies listed BUT I can BUY a card to guarantee me 15% of school supplies all year long. Um, no thanks. I hope I didn't miss it, or maybe the sales here won't start for another week or two???

We had to buy them for the first time when the kids switched schools and ugh, it was so painful. I think we spent about $150 on both of them and that was just for the actual supplies.

I was lucky enough to get a school supply list back in early April for DS7. With DS12, his supply list is more expensive because not only is he older, but he's in a specialized class. They both have to have indoor shoes and Matthew has things he can reuse next year, so that sort of helps us.

I'm gonna check out Staples and Office Depot and see what I can swing in the next six weeks. They don't have to be back until September 1st, so that gives me at least two or three weeks more breathing room than the last few years.

Don't forget places like dollar stores, Family dollar, and craft stores for school supplies. I have been able to get some good deals without paying a lot.

A couple years ago I stocked up on computer paper at the grocery store. Still have the paper.

You may need to get a little creative about where you buy different items if you have enough stores around.

I hve been getting my printer paper at the dollar store. Its a pack of 150 paper for 1.00. I buy 3 at a time and spend less then what I can get it for at walmart for the same amount.

I am sooooooo glad I am done with this (last one graduated high school this May)...

When we lived in Iowa, we got a long list of supplies that were needed per kid (we have 4).. Our daughter still lives there and said the list is a little longer now..

When we moved to Missouri the list was so short, I was shocked, but pleased

Well, sense we don't have to buy for any of ours now, we will help our daughter with our grandsons supply list..

Also might donate to the local place that helps low income families with supplies.. I have a lot of mechanical pencils, spiral notebooks, etc. that I stocked up on over the years..

So I do think school supplies will just be more expensive this year.

Our walmart put out their bins of school supplies, you know where the good deals 25 cent crayons etc right in the middle of everything.

Well the cheapest thing in the bunch was crayons but this year they were 40 cents (almost a 40% increase) glue bottles and glue sticks were 40 cents as well. the 12 pack of markers was 97 cents and colored pencils were over $1.

They had a hand held pencil sharpener for 97 cents in the school supply bargain bins. that sure made the 50 cents staples one that didn't sound like a good deal sound like a good deal now.

So I will keep an eye out but I'm not hopeful for great deals this year. Having my mom keep an eye out where see lives since she has different stores.

And this year I have a high schooler and they don't get lists until the first day of class then the teacher will tell them if they need anything "special" for that class. I'm sure he will need loose leaf paper and plenty of pencils since the school has a vending machine outside the school office to get some if needed. 25 cents each.

Anyone know what else Freshman might need?
