Do you have enough of everything to make you calm if the
Goverment shutdown did really happen? I think for the first time in many years I feel everthing is in place..I have lot's of cash, food, drinks, medicines, toilet paper,275 gallon fuel tank filled..20 gallons of gas in their 5 gallon containers in case we need to run our generator, or put some gas in our car, propane tank's fill for BBQ grill, plenty of bullet's for the guns..I have enough to help my brother and his family and also my dad & stepmom out if this did happen..I'm very comforted knowing that I could make quite a few GOOD meals along with homemade bread and homemade desserts..speaking of desserts I wrote down last night 39 different recipes with all the ingredients I have on hand
that's just what I have in my recipe's that I really liked..I made sure that I stockpiled more powdered milk which is a staple ingredient in my making my homemade bread recipe & yoo hoo stretching my store bought milk and many other way's..I've bought some extra favourite foods for my nephews (10 & 13yrs old and the love of my life..I love them as much as I love my own kids)) that I know will be the first to showup @ my door if the they had no food @ their house...their parent's do not stockpile! they also live right down the road from me...

Having just gone through a government shut-down earlier this month, I'd have to say yes.
This is not an end-of-the-world scenario, and if it did actually happen, it's not going to go on for long. They are already under enormous pressure to solve this issue, and if they shut down, the pressure will intensify enormously every hour they don't fix it. It's not like the government is suddenly going to be dissolved, either.
IOW, no need for panic.

I am better off than most that is for sure. Have sugar, rice, beans, wheat, and all needed ingredients for making breads, dry milk, eggs, canned goods ect. I would love to have more but I feel better having what I do compared to what most people have.
My brothers that were here in the beginning of the month for my ds wedding called it a bunker. whatever. I play it off and say well I live in hurricane country and you never know when or for how long we could be out of power and the stores would be empty. They just shrug. Fine with me.Married 22 years to Mark

We are prepared for an economic and societal collapse, so this would be a piece of cake.We added two underground cisterns for water collection and have a wind turbine this year. Last year we did solar panels. Our next step is to turn our sunroom into a complete greenhouse for indoor food production year round. We are building a little smokehouse so I do not have to use my cousins.I don't stock up on store things as much because I really am not so dependant on those types of products. My goal always has been to avoid the need to plug into the system, which means I am dependant upon a corporation.I don't like to do business that way. This has been a financial blessing and helps with peace of mind for any circumstance.( I do stock up on TP and Kotex, oh my I don't want to do it the old fashioned way until I must.)

A lot more would have to shut down than "the government" before I would start to worry.

CH, the problem is when the government shuts down, it impacts a ton of things you don't even realize it will.
But I still don't think it's anything to worry all that much about.

You are doing very well! Remember, a house made in modern times will be useless if you cannot plug into a system. They are at present useless without the systems .People are dependant on them. You have to consider heat, water, cooling.Would you like to learn how you can begin to change that? Look up Earthships. They will be very strange at first, but you will learn how to make even a modern home into a self sufficient vessel. Have fun! This is where we started.

I have been thinking about the gaps in my preps..I'm not sure how many people knows that I'm married to a Marine..He can fix, repair and make anything..He's a sharp shooter and know's all about survival..this past winter we needed a snow rake and every store was sold out.. so my dh looked all over the property and found this HUGE cookie sheet (that I've never seen before) the previuos owner had lot's of junk that my dh insisted he didn't mind it being left there when we bought the house and rigged it to a pole and BAM we used it all winter..Thank God! otherwise there was a chance of our house ,garage roofs and shed might have collasped under all that weight! My dad showed me where the fresh water spring is..My family owns lot's of farming land, man made ponds w/lot's of fish and plenty of room to raise most all of our food if need be..LAST RESORT is my grandmother is a millionaire and I could go to her if I had to..Wife to Keith

i think your right...
I think what the government shut down will be able to do is make the prices skyrocket....which in turn will make it impossible for some people to take care of themselves....groceries, gas you name it....why do they do this because they can...and that is why...I have stockpiled enough food to eat comfortably for 6 months and if i skimp probably 9 months.....if need be....i also have a great emergency fund that i did not bank...just in case....
