Default what movie/tv show inspires your frugality?

My favorite movie to watch that brings me back down to earth and learn to be more frugal is The Dollmaker starring Jane Fonda. The reviews on it always talks about her desire to go back home but I see more in the movie.
Gertie, is very frugal and smart. Even when her husband moves them to Detroit she doesn't conform to buy food on credit or do as the others do. She comes from the country, clean air, water, self reliant living.....farms,etc and then is moved into a small apartment.
I don't want to tell anymore just in case someone hasn't seen it. I highly recommend this movie.
She was able to save so much money in hopes to return home.
Its a real tear jerker but inspires me to save, live on less and to cherish home.

Don't watch much TV/movies. I grew up with a frugal mother as a role model and heard stories of the depression era. I have always been frugal, green, etc. I am just a practical person.

    Ditto for me.

Hoarders makes me realize that if I become clutter free, I won't be buying doubles of something that I already paid good money for but have misplaced by not giving it a proper home. And it also helps me realize what I can really live without or seek out alternatives.

Gail V.O - she rocks b/c she tells you how it is straight up. Shoots from the hip and doesn't sugar coat things but does explain things. She makes learning, easy.

~I Love Lucy. It's great! If it was a modern show about a nightclub singer's wife, there'd be a lot more decadence and frivolity. It's fascinating that Ricky Ricardo was a famous performer but he and his wife lived modestly. Money and sticking to a budget comes up a lot in the show. They traveled when it was business related and they usually went a frugal way(driving cross county). They stayed as guests in other people's homes. Did their apartment even have a tv?~

Little House on the Prairie and PBS/Frontline's The Farmer's Wife.

I watch hoarders sometimes and I have to clean after I do. That's the scariest TV show EVER

Jericho is awesome. It's about what happens to a small town when several US cities are hit by nukes. They have to find food, restore power, protect their town... it's more disaster prep than frugal living but I did find it very inspiring. My food stashing instinct went way up when I watched that. It's available on netflix, btw.

I'm reading the little house books now. I'm going to have to try to find the series.

The Waltons, Hoarders, Roseanne. The Waltons because they lived through the dpression and stayed a close family even in adversity.
Hoarders inspiring to clean and not to have to many mutiples of things.
Roseanne season 1 is my fave. The opening for a few seasons are food oriented season jello with fruit and cool whip. poker and with oreos and pretzels. Pizza with generic pop, chinese food.
The things in here house remind me of mine always clothes on the drying rack and my daughter hating meatloaf calling it dogfood.

princess and til debt do us part - gail voz oxlade
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
