If you won the Lottery....
If you won the lottery would you:
Still be as frugal as you are now?( more, less, same) and what would you change?

If I won the lottery, I would buy a house. Not a million dollar house but a regular large house and then I would pay off my moms house and buy my siblings a regular house too.
Also I would fund my kids and neices and nephews college, but they would have some stipulations so they don't party and waste their college years.
I also would go into hiding so the general public wouldn't know who I was. I would be an easy prey for some scams.

Yes.
How do I know?
Because I hit the lottery once.
ONCE
for around $1800 (back in 1990) .. instead of going out spending it on "things" I paid my rent, and bought a shower curtain because I didn't have one... at ALL... (new apt). I suppose I did splurge and buy a microwave
it was $40! The rest went in to the bank to pay the bills.
Pretty boring for an 18 year old lotto winner huh?
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I'd like to think that I'd maintain the good habits I've been working on for several years now - but I suspect I'd probably do a LITTLE indulging...
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I would move and buy a small house with a large enough yard for gardening. Also would buy a really fuel efficient car since I have no car now. Would give myself x amount of dollars to do whatever I wanted to with. This would probably go into buying furniture and gardening supplies for the house.
Would allow myself to get my hair trimmed more often and up the grocery limit so I could eat organic.
So I would be spending more money however I would still have a budget each month and would definately start investing some of the money.
Would I still try to be frugal, I would say yes since the temptation would be there to just spend.

If it was little lottery, nothing would change. If it was a BIG lottery - go on and start social security, quit my job, freeing myself from the tyranny of the clock, help a couple of people, make audible.com very, very happy, as I could then really indulge my passion for audiobooks. Other than that, just carry on with my quiet life.

After the last 4 years we had, my perspective has changed on money....A Lot.
First thing- Tithe
If it was some grand sum, we'd pay off all our debts. Fix our fixer upper. Build an addition so in-laws could live here. Possibly our children's families when they are older.
Then make our home run without cost, solar power for heat, air, all energy. Install water cisterns and a reverse osmosis water filtering system. Build a giant greenhouse. Get our kids educated and set up in business.
Of course we'd have to talk with our accountant about how to make our money work for us, and whatever that would entail.
There would be splurges without any doubt, an in ground pool would be a must as would yearly vacations. But the splurges would have to come after EVERYTHING was set.~~~

I would pay off the house, my Mom's house and investment properties. There are some family members who could use some assistance who through no fault of their own are struggling. Those would be my priorities. I would then make a larger budget for traveling
so Greebo can finally "bite me!" in Iceland.

Pay off my house, give it to someone who needed it.
Buy a 100 acres and build the "Cannon Compound" right in the middle, far enough away from the noise of dirt bikes.
ok,, it wouldn't be a compound, but it would be a bit bigger than what we have now... maybe 2000sq ft... All on one level.Russ

Same here.
Dh and I talk about this subject. I would finish the project that I have going in my house and the things on my "wishlist". We would both get new cars. His truck is 14 yrs old and my van is 7. Take a nice vacation just the 2 of us. Unless I got 3 or 4 million I wouldn't quit my job or change much else.

If we are talking 3 million plus I would first be so happy because dh could quit working so hard to support us all!
We wouldnt really do anything until we got sound financial advise!
I'd finish this house and we would move into something new but still practical.
I'd love to set my Mom up so she has no financial worries.
Dh's has always wanted a motorcycle.
I'd set up trusts for my kids.
I'd help my best friend~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

Some things yes, some things no. I'd still use coupons and eat leftovers. But there are a lot of things I would splurge on. Like I'd get a pedicure every week. We'd also eat out a lot more often!

Hubby and I have discussed this a few times.. We will probably get our kids homes (then up to them to make the payments after 6 months), help our oldest daughter start her own salon, spoil our grandson and also put money away for his future, help hubbys parents, my mom, help my BFF, and maybe a small amount of family on my dads side..
As for hubby and I, we are thinking bout a home on wheels, so hubby can rock hunt..
I know the frugalness will stay with me, cos' I am not one that needs a million dollar home (I would like an old country home), I am not big on new cars, I like my "93", we would keep it and fix it up.. We don't have the ability to be "flashy".. Neither of us has ever had big dreams ~ houses, cars, trips, etc.. We always have been simple, also in our wants and needs..Mom of 4
