On the news this evening they said the cost of peanuts was $1,000.00 a ton. That we would see the price increase next month. Great just in time for my holiday baking.

So I will check out Sam's Costco and GFS for their price and purchase some.

    This is just getting crazy.

I heard this as well today! Needless to say I went and bought 2 jars and thinking about getting a few more jars ( Christmas without peanut butter blossoms????!!!! I can see it now!). Also DD has an obsession with PB&J sandwiches, she hardly eats anything but for that (actually she had a PB&J for each meal even breakfast!).

I went to Sunday Dinner and bought 5 lbs for 10.25 two weeks ago. It was the last one on the shelf. Today I bought another 5 lb container for 13.35. I think this will last me quite awhile.

I was at Costco on Monday. Everyone had peanut butter in their carts and not just one unit of 2...but 3 or 4 units. The checker said it was unbelieveable how many jars had been sold! The price was $7.99 for 2 jars 48 oz each (Skippy). That comes out to .08 an oz.

I went to Costco yesterday for my usual, every 6 weeks shop, and had peanut butter on my list, as we are almost out. Costco was completely out of the 2-pack Skippy I usually get. All they had was natural organic, which is always beyond my budget.

So, wow, thanks to the news of rising prices, the subsequent panic induced, and the shelf-clearers, there was no peanut butter to be had for people who just want to buy one package. *sigh*

I don't think news about upcoming price increases and shortages benefits anyone but the manufacturers and retailers who are able sell all their product, much faster than normal, at whatever price they want.
