Land O Lakes is always expensive, I get store brand butter, which is around 2.69 here, when it goes on sale for 1.99.

Squash was under a buck here last week. Unfortunately it is already going soft, so it makes me wonder if they have the same problems from the bad weather as the pumpkin farmers.

24oz of bacon at 8.99 is 5.99/lb, a bit high, but about what I pay for premium locally smoked bacon at the butcher shop.

I sent DH for milk last week, he about had a heart attack at the price of it. He's not used to shopping and had no idea how much stuff costs these days.

It is getting bad here as well. Check out the price of peanut butter. It was $3.69 for a 15 oz. jar 0f Planter's brand this week. One month ago, it was $2.29.

Looks like, with a few exceptions, our prices are about the same here.

Have seen squash for .59..........our butter hasn't been DOWN to
1.99 in AGES.........and sale price will sometimes be 2.50.

Those bacon prices about gave me a heart attack..........I quit
buying it when it went above $3.50 for a pound.........will use other pork for flavoring and had stocked up on sausage but quit buying that too. Told myself that bacon isn't that good for you anyway.........will see how long that lasts!! (had a small stockpile and am using it very sparingly!!)

I was just glad to see our milk BACK DOWN to $2.48 when I bought some the other day. (gallon--2%---not organic)

In NW Lousiana - not many of the same things on sale.

    Bacon - 24 oz sale 6.49 & 6.99, two stores; 16 oz Morrel, 2.27

Butter - I buy house brand, about the same a Contrary Housewife

Coffee - none on sale, I never buy so no comparison here.

Butternut squash - not on sale, but for us a good sale price is .99 lb, but it's rarely on sale at all. It's usually around 1.29 a pound. Needless to say, it is a rare treat. I love it, but only buy it once or twice a year. I haven't seen .79 pound for several years. I don't think it's much used around here - stores will only have a few on hand.

Oh...........I soooooo wish I lived closer to some of you people.

I can't do the 'butternut'.............but have OVER 30 'buttercup'....and I may be giving some away on CL.........I just don't feel like putting up a bunch of it.............and people can only use so many!

On the other hand........my acorn didn't do so great....go figure!!

I saw squash for .49 in a small little farming community I was in a couple weeks ago.............that is cheaper than here.

I saw PB for $3.59 the last time I was at the store. I am hoping for a sale since I only have 2 jars left in my stock.

Glad I don't buy bacon... when did those prices get so crazy?!?

Our Fred Meyer is having a great sale starting tomorrow and I will be stocking up:

    Challenge Butter $2.00
    Shredded Wheat $1.67 (plus I have a coupon for $1.00 off 2)
2# tillamook cheese $4.88 (not the lowest but this might be the best for a while?)
    Vitamin Water .50
Pinepples $2.00 (probably pretty small but still a decent price)
    Sour cream $1.50

    Gees....brennasmom............those are some good prices.

I was checking the exp. date on the butter at the stores (didn't buy) and figured they would have to be 'getting rid of it' at some point so am hoping for some 'holiday sales' on it.........but that is a good price!!

It is so bizarre.............bacon and sausage has just gone nutso............but I can still get pork roast pretty 'reasonable' and just bought some pork chops.
Guess all those chemicals and spices cost a lot!!

It seems that bacon was always pretty expensive relative to other pork, though that may be a mistaken impression. But the jump in sausage does seem substantial. Fortunately, I only get it occasionally as it's not a favorite thing. I'm probably going to just write is off as a bad idea - it's not something I would miss.
