counting up the cost of my clothes plus an archive story

I was looking over all my clothes I bought this year for me. looking at the cost of eat item. Because of size change almost a complete wardrobe was needed.

Besides a pair of jeans ( bought with coupon on sale $17) and a pair of corduroys from the Goodwill ($5.34) everything else was under $5, most under $3. The lowest price item was pant for 75 cents.

all bought on clearance
or on sale with JC Penney coupon (most of those were around a $1 in cost)
or at goodwill or salvation army

I was staring at my new shoes, trying to remember how much they cost. I had bought them from the goodwill. So I looked through the archives of FV to try and find the post about me buying them. I found out they cost more than $5 but I bought them almost 2 years ago LOL

I also found out in the archive that my new purse I bought at the goodwill was not bought this year either but a year and a half ago. lol
Apparently it take me a long while not to view something as new to me.

I seldom buy clothes, but when I do I try to figure out how much I will wear each article - 1-2 times per week - and then the cost/wearing. For my shoes, I splurge due to health problems and this has been the best investment I have ever made. Found some great sales on ECCO sandals last year (they average $125/pair) - so I am set for at least this year.

Thats is a great idea...my fave jeans right now are 14.99 specials from JC Penny...marked down from 52.00...was hoping to find more cause my body is hard to fit(plus size tall,long torso/rise)

my number is three maybe four of each thing. I wash every other day.

So everything gets worn often. I needed all new things this time.

This year nothing fit except winter pj's, coat, shoes, and swimsuit so I needed everything for spring summer winter and fall.

I spent just over $60 on clothes for me for the whole year of 2011.

Wish I could say that for the kids. Buddy changed shoes size 3 times in 2011 ( started off the year in a new size 6 and is currently in a size 10 1/2) so that meant three pairs of dress shoes 3 sneakers for everyday wear. Sometimes it was a quick grab no time to look for a sale type thing. Like new dress shoes minutes before the concert (which you are graded for proper attire) Hubby also gets new clothes when his wear out about every 3 years for pants and shirts and every 6 to 8 for dress shoes. This year he needed both shoes and shirts and pants.

Did you buy the three purses? IF so share some details what do they look like etc.


You can't get lower prices here at thrift store by buying out of season clothing.

Goodwill same price year round. It doesn't matter what season it is. (now you can sometimes find better things off season as others are not looking at that stuff as much)

Salvation Army only puts out that season's clothing out for sale. They generally put out toys out for sale only at Christmas time too.

My father-in-law, as well as both of my brother-in-laws, have been giving me their clothes that they grow out of. Since I've been roughly the same size for the past decade, this has accumulated into a lot of clothes. All I've bought are boxers and socks, and am able to do my laundry every six weeks.

Good idea to keep track. I am pretty easy on my clothes and can wear them many years. However, I am short 5'3 and often the cost of altering pant and jeans ends up costing me more than the clothing itself! I have no problem paying good money for boots and shoes that I will wear for 5 to 10 years or more but even then buy on sale. I, too, love Goodwill and have found many nice things there with tags still attached even. DD1 probably takes most of our clothing budget. I spend next to nothing on DD2 and DS somewhere in the middle.

fru - agreed on the altering but it is well worth the $$$ imho....just looks neater.

you are all fab on your clothing budgets. i LOVE to thrift, but, i also love to shop! so, our clthng budget is much much much higher than those posted...i will stop there....lol
