Ours is up too, but just down the road a piece they want $3.99 and that's for low grade fuel. I guess food prices will be going up again. *sigh* Can't keep up with it anymore. My DH has become the gas gauge police, the thermostat police (oil heat), the do you know how long you've been the shower police. (oil heats our water) This keeps up he's going to have us out in the yard with the garden hose to shower.
*snort* Well, I'm guessing we will be out in the yard with the garden hose!
Hmm...I should see about finding some staples while the prices are down till this whole thing blows over. My staples are getting low and if gas prices are going to go that high, food is going to be outrageous. So better get my pantry restocked before the prices go up again.
Can't imagine $5 a gallon. I really need to find myself a bike. I'm already trapped here due to gas prices, it will only get worse. It would be nice to get some fresh air and a change of scenery.
The $5 a gallon they've been talking about it here on the radio for way over a month.
Couple days ago it jumped 4 cents. Today it went from $3.57 to $3.63. Hold onto the seat of your pants...it's going to be a wild ride. Groceries, heat, everything...including meds and stuff you don't even think about. Everything is shipped...greeting cards, school supplies, seeds...EVERYTHING. Not looking good is it.
Picked up meds yesterday. Don't know if gas was part of it or not but blood pressure meds went from $109 to $131. 3 lbs plain old yellow onions were $2.99.

I was talking to my son this morning on the phone about gas prices going higher , and he says...."so what's the oil companies excuse this time ? " I said ....."they are blaming it on Iran"
Don't forget the price of diseal which moves the big trucks for deliveries.
We are in deep trouble.............
*sigh* Well, I can't do too much about stocking up to ride it out, my budget just won't allow much of that. But I am going to get some staples in like sugar, corn meal, baking powder, and some stuff for cleaning supplies, vinegar, Fels-Naptha ect.
And Niko, thanks for mentioning meds. Think I'll go to the dollar store and get stocked on allergy and advil. Need enough to make it through the Summer and beyond????
Don't look for them to go down any time in the near future. I don't think it's going to happen. I know things are looking up for some people and I'm very very happy for them. But here....it's not looking up. Maybe it depends on where you live. Don't know.
I don't think the recession is anywhere near over whether it's the gas starting the next episode of the playout or something else contributing. It all trickles down. And it's not done trickling yet. All we can do is it doesn't turn into a stream and heaven help us if it's a waterfall. It's not over people. By a long shot.
I posted this in another thread in homesteading forum... I was reading a article in last night's local newspaper from a AP wirephoto story....
which I did find the story online on cbs news website. I quote from the article ...
Obama finally scores coveted win on payroll tax .....
"Obama says these tax steps will help support a fragile recovery
from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression."
( If you don't have a backup plan in place currently.....
you better activate one .....
like yesterday....... )
Yeah, I read that post last night. Had to read it twice before I understood it but finally grasped it.
I'm still stockpiling but especially the stuff that is higher...his Splenda, coffee, coffee creamer etc. But cutting back on everything I can too in order to do this.
Nope this isn't going to be over for a lot of people for a long time.

I picked up 2 cans of coffee this past week. Did not need it but the price was right.
Guess I should have picked up more.
I already did our budget for this year.
I think I better do another budget for the year and figure the worst case scenario for
higher gas prices. I do log our gas usage so I can compare to what we used last year.
New budget ain't gonna be pretty.
I am glad I live within a 1/2 block of a grocery store and 1 block form the dollar general store.. I will walk this summer.... I am stocking up.. everything will skyrocket..Hubs uses his bosses vechile for work so that helps a lot...
Yes, that does help. I'm too far from anything to seriously consider riding a bike anywhere, but I'd love to catch a bit of the scenery around here. It's beautiful where I live and would do wonders for this cabin fever I've had for the past few years.
Also miss being close to family like when I was little. Everyone's homes were a big giant stone throw from each other. Miss walking with my Grandmother, cousins and such. Saves gas you know, as I got older we'd (my friends and I) would go for a drive to beat back cabin fever. No doing that anymore. No one drives just to drive anymore. We used to drive for hours, we get lost on purpose and drive and drive till we found our way home again. Can you imagine doing that now?
As Niko said...I am screwed....i travel almost 100 miles a day for work...this week i have vacation and we have not had to buy gas yet....when i am working ...my gas is over $500 a month...if i didnt have to travel it would be less than half of that....a whole new perspective....i hate to give up a job i love most days but wowzer...I could work a whole lot closer for less money because in the end it all evens out....ugh! Then there are days like this week i dont like my job that much because of all the things i get done while not working makes me realize its just to much!
yup, it's hit the point I am getting extra cautious about my trips out. We're off to the Berkshires to visit my Dad today, 100 miles each way. We saw him just a few weeks ago, but with the kids on vacation this week and gas prices rising by the minute, thinking we should get this done. On the way home we'll pass within a mile or 2 of the Dollar store and Supermarket and Walmart- think I'll hit them, even though I won't feel like it after hours in the car with 2 little kids- doing it then will save me driving roughy 25 miles round trip later in the week to buy food. Need perishables, odds and ends at Dollar store, and while we're good on dog foos another 5 or 6 days, getting it today will help keep the driving down. bracing myself for a 'guess what kids, we're staying home save 1 or 2 days a week'this summer. At $4-5 a gallon, iving in a rural area, I will really be evaluating if we need to blow $5-7 in gas just to 'get out of the house'. Beauty stockpile is massive, food stockpile is decent- but this situation also makes me feel more pressure to get on gettng that extra fridge/freezer for stockpiling!
Dh and I share a ride on the days we both work 30 miles away. I dont mind having to waste about 90 minutes before work or about the same after. Nothing really we can do to cut down further. I do errands 99% of the time right after work to save a trip.
I do feel for my 18 year old though. He is trying to save for a car while borrowing ours. He has 17 miles each way to work. At $8 an hour and getting 20 mpg it really cuts into his ability to save.
My youngest wants a job. With everything 17 + miles away I am a bit iffy on having to drive him to work 17 miles, come home, go get him, come home. I think I will spend as much as he makes!
I haven't been out in several days but the last time I was out (Saturday) it was 3.64 at our little station here. Can't imagine what it must be now. I too have seen the 5.00 a gallon predictions for a while now. My dh drives about 45 miles one way to work and we drive about 30 one way to take dd to school two days a week. YIKES!
I will be running all errands and getting groceries on the day that I drive dd to school each week. She goes to school in the big town with Walmart, Dollar Tree, Kroger, etc. I will be watching sales even more closely and probably cutting out some snack foods, etc.
Dh's parents live only 10 minutes from where he works so he can stay with them a night or two here and there when he's working to save on gas. Our summer camping trips are probably cancelled unless we take our tent though. And that's hard on me with IBS! I like my bathroom in my camper!
I love day trips used to do when my daughter was small load the cooler with junk food ( I know it was bad) drive until she said stop we would go visit hike take pictures... so much fun
Hubs and I like to do that to load the cooler with junk see a theme and take the dog and go... see a theme . won't be doing that any... makes me sad...
Oh Polly I can not ride a bike I never learned...
going to be staying home walking to the stores near.. ugh
