So I had a request from DS for spaghetti with the "long skinny noodles"... for some reason I have a stock of pasta but didn't grab any spaghetti. So we stopped on our way home to grab a box. I really enjoy Barilla the best. It was on "sale" for $1.99 for the one pound box :thud:. Sale?!? The regular price was $2.29. :thud: Hope I find some pasta sales soon.
Here I wait til it goes on sale and I buy pasta for €0.35-€0.49 per 500g (a little over a pound). I refuse to pay more than that, so there's no way on earth I will ever put something as fancy as Barilla on our table. Our pasta is the most generic stuff out there.
I get whole wheat pasta for €0.85/500g - also store brand. We eat whole wheat about half the time... we much prefer it but it costs 2x as much
I can get the store brand here for .79 here when it's on sale and Muellers for .99 on sale. I almost never buy Barilla becasue it's rarely on sale where I shop which equals not getting put in the cart.
Same here........for 79 cents.......and not sure if it is store brand or not..........I buy whatever is on sale cheap but I like to get all kinds/shapes.
Noticed the prices going up last year so hit one sale pretty hard and stocked up..........no limit........YET!!!
Never have trouble with mushy pasta and put some olive oil in water to keep from sticking. (have to watch the cheap ones more)
On a whim I bought some pasta at Dollar Tree, it is called COLUMBIA, it is wonderful (I'm very picky about pasta-can't stand mushy pasta). Now it is the only pasta I buy if I can help it. It's made in America since 1848, which I think is an added bonus!
I'm not a Barilla fan. I have a lot in stockpile and haven't looked for a long time. I can't imagine paying $1.99 much less $2.29. Wow! Maybe I'd better look next time I go. I'm not brand loyal tho. Generic or brand...I couldn't tell the difference.
I've tried to like wheat pasta, but I can't say I'm thrilled with it. I don't think it freezes as well, either, unless I'm just doing something wrong. It doesn't seem to stay as firm in the freezer as white pasta.
I seldom freeze pasta, so don't know. I will cook up a large batch (my size large!) but eat it for leftovers b/4 I have to freeze it.
I find wheat pasta to be 'drier' is I guess the way I would describe it....seems like it even takes more water while cooking. I like my pasta a little on the al dente side and I have to watch it carefully. (same with ANY egg noodle)
I should have been more specific. I meant the wheat pasta, after being cooked, seems not to stay as firm in the freezer when being frozen in a prepared dish.
at Sam's it's .96 per lb wold in a pdg of 6 - 1 lb pks.
at Big Lots it .96 for some & $1.00 up for others. Can't remember it being on sale in a LLLLooooonnnnngggg time.
The local Albertson's has Barilla pasta on sale for $1/ea this week. I'm planning on going there this evening and buying 20 boxes. It's good to have on hand.
My wife has Celiac Disease, so we have to get rice pasta. Not only does it not taste as good as other pasta, the consistency kind of sucks, and it's at least twice as expensive as regular pasta.
The Italian Chef was on sale this week for 79 cents --16 oz. package.
..........after this discussion.......I bought some more.
Keeps forever........unless you get bugs...........or brought bugs home from the store........UGH......:thud:
