I always have at least two which includes a firewall and spyware / spamware filter. I get recommendations for the latest and greatest free ones from the Kim Kommando website. She is pretty reliable. I find I have to switch up the packages I use frequently. Right now I have Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft Defender, SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Fixio.
I hate Nortons. It seems to always slow my computer. AVG has been good then they'll do an update and mess everything up. I found them not to be reliable so I uninstalled them.
I started getting a magazine shopsmart and it rates all kinds of everyday items; kind of like consumer reports but smaller things. It said that Avira was a good, free, antivirus.
Avira is best rated paid or free anti-virus program. Download at download.com as programmers at this site look over all programs for trojan horses & spyware which are common additions by prick programmers.
I have Avast, but have heard good things about AVG and Avira as well.
