We're fortunate to have made some financial moves recently so now that hubby needs a new car we can afford to pay cash for a nice but modest one. When I reminded hubby of this, his response was ... "Oh good. That means we can also afford to just replace the transmission in the car I already own."
Awesome. Have to say I appreciate mines' skill set. Fixed 3 diff things on the furnace, the garage door, set up a pump system for our flooding yard, replaced the stripping on the refridge and sev. other things.
I hope you can fix both.
Sounds like a couple of "keepers" to me! Just remember what still holds true...."behind every great man, there stands a great woman"! So good job ladies! lol!
Awesome!! It's truly a great thing when you work together.
You've seen many posts of trying to get a spouse on board. It's incredibly difficult to have a frugal and spendy relationship. Not saying it can't be done. Just saying it's difficult.
Well, truth be told, I think we really should replace the car. It is more than the transmission. This car is 17 years old but it has been garaged most of its life. It has the same mileage on it as my 9 year old mini-van. The car looks great but it has also been totaled when hubby hit a deer last year. We took the pay-off money, added in a little and fixed the car. It is still insured and registered and, except for the transmission slipping, runs fine. The problem is we don't know what might happen next to it. It is starting to get difficult to fine parts and tires (it has 13" wheels).
Hubby's point is that it gets great gas mileage (even now as old as it is!) and there is nothing on the market that gets mileage like it.
The older cars are a gamble sometimes if you only have 1 vehicle or you really need two vehicles because you commute in opposite directions. If you are handy, some people pick up a parts car if you come across the same kind of vehicle really cheap. You can pick it for parts...subdivisions with covenants usually ban this as do some city ordinances unless you can keep it in the garage.
