    Default Frugal Emergency Kit

If I have time the next couple of days I am planning on updating my emergency kit. I already had one ready from a couple of years ago, as we live in an area where a big earthquake is expected. I have food, matches, water, tp etc. I was wondering who also has one, what do you keep in it and where do you store it? Is the garage a good place or under the stairs in the basement? I really don't have any room on the main floor.

I have one in the house and one in the van. Mine are kept in duffle bags. Here is what I have in them:

Water (in the house there are several 3 gal bottles, in the van it is 2 - 1 gal bottles. I rotate these out once a month with new ones)
    Camp food
    Thermal blankets
    candles
    sterno cans
    matches
    first aid kit
empty coffee cans (one for a portopotty, the other for a portostove)

What I would like to add is at least one change of clothes for each of us in the van.
Nana to Logan, Ryver, Robbie, Grant and Dennis
    Baby Step 1: Done
Baby Step 2: $8350 to go

Thanks for starting this, I am going to be making one or more of these myself..

I think I will put it near a spot where I will be spending most of my time, so probably in the kitchen closet since i'm there or at the computer or in the living room most of the day. I'll also keep one in the car and at least a flashlight, shoes, and batteries next to the bed.

    for my kit I'll use:
    toilet paper
shovel(for the one in the car)
    travel sized deodarants
    Baby wipes for sponge baths
    bottled water
    pull top canned food
    dry oatmeal
    chips/crackers/cookies
    bandaids/gauze
    swiss army knife
    those special blankets
    change of clothes
    and not sure what else...
