A loss leader is an item sold at cost or below cost to attract consumers. It's to entice them to purchase other products that make a profit or to gain new consumers.

Thanks !!! Now if we only had stores in our area that doubled coupons to $1., Id be ok

Let me ask one more question ...... If a store is having a BOGO sale and you have 2 coupons for this item and want to use them ( I had one for .35 & one for .75) should I be allowed to use one on each item ? I thought I should be able to but the young ( and ignorant) cashier refused to take both of them saying that since the one item was free, I couldnt use it . Well, I made a big deal out of it and asked to talk to the manager all over .35 !! ( which shouldve been .70 since it wouldve been doubled) but he only agreed to give my .35. What are your opinions on this ? Was I wrong to begin with ?

It is a store policy thing. Some stores will take 2 coupons on BOGO and some won't. A lot of it depends on how the computers are set up to ring up the BOGO. If they ring 1 up at full price and the second up for free, then they won't take 2 coupons. You should call your store and find out there policy, that way you are armed with it next time a casher gives you trouble.

I always assume I can use only 1 coupon on BOGO sales. The coupons usually state "one coupon per purchase", and technically, you're only paying for 1 item. So something like that I wouldn't argue with.

What I hate is when I'm actually buying (paying for) 2 of something and the cashier tells me I can only use 1 coupon. I argue that one until I'm blue in the face.
