Ask your employer about a flexible spending account. This will let you set aside money before taxes are taken out and is best utilized with known yearly medical costs such as check-ups. The cash can be used to pay doctor bills that insurance doesn't cover. Accounts to cover child-care costs are also generally available.

I did this one year at my job, but in my case I overestimated the amount of money that I needed taken out and at the end of the year I lost the money that I had left in the account. I did not use the amount of out of pocket medical expenses that I thought I would, I lost about $50. I don't know if they are all like that or if it was just my employeer that had that policy of "use it or lose it". I love the idea of tax free money though.
