My husband showed me years ago how to make this and it is so simple, fast and yummy!! His mom used to make it all the time for them. I don't even know what it is called.... All it is is a white sauce, mix a bit of butter/marg., flour, add milk and thicken, add a bit of shredded cheese if you have it (if you don't, doesn't matter), add a can of tuna in there and some peas or corn. Toast some bread, bagel (whatever you have on hand) and serve sauce over top.

Ours is goulash. It is just some hamburger browned with onion and bell pepper and I use spicy V8 and elbow macoroni and some spices and it is cheap and easy. I get my V8 at the scratch and dent store for 3 for $1 for the 8 oz cans so it is really cheap.

my favorite frugal recipe would be my hamburger stew. Basically brown 1 pound if groud beef with one cubed onion, boil 4/5 potatoes,1 rutabaga,3/4 carrots, some cubed cabbage, and some frozen corn, with two beef boullion cubes and some seasoning. Once, the vegetables have cooked, just add the beef, and thicken. My secret is too add a couple squirts of soya sauce to the cooking vegetables. My kids love it. And I usually get two meals from it. wendy

Heather! That sounds so much like what my grandma always made me, we called it Rarebit. We did a sauce like you described, then poured it over toast that we crumbled, and my favorite thing to have it with was peas (we just didn't do the tuna since we grew up vegetarian)

I also love to make polenta, topped with a little mozzerella/basil tomato and or mushroom (which ever is cheap)
