    Talking Frugal tip 3/22

    Monitor nursing home bills if you have parents there. Nursing homes often have their own pharmacies which charge premium prices for prescriptions filled. Check the bill for prescription drug charges and compare them with local drugstore prices.

    The reason Nursing Homes do this is because the State Depts of Inspection prefer that the unit dose system is used for administration of medications. The paharmacy puts all the pills in DADS (I can't remember what that stands for) that are labeled and color coded for the medication, dosage and time. If Mom or Dad are using a lot of medications this system definatly prevents medication errors, even though is costs a little more.
