    Lightbulb Bagged Produce

I just read this in a newsletter I get. This woman had every right to be upset. I know I have bought produce this way myself. From now on, I'm going to weigh it too!!

    That's Outrageous!
    Albertson's Apple Bags
    contributed by Dorrie J.

I'm outraged! I just got back from picking up a few things at
an Albertson's grocery store. It's more upscale and pricey,
but it had a few good sale items. One was a three-pound bag of
red delicious apples for 99 cents. Not a bad price as those
are often 99 cents per pound. So I narrowed my search down to
two bags and decided to use the handy scale to determine which
one to buy. The first bag weighed 1.8 pounds. The second
weighed 1.5 pounds! I checked the sign and the writing on the
bag. The bag read "contains 3lbs," and yes, they were 99 cents
a bag. Confused, I tried another scale and three more bags
plucked at random. Not one weighed more than two pounds!

So, I found the produce manager who seemed surprised, but
unwilling to do anything. He explained they get them bagged
like that, and they'd already sold at least 15 or 20 bags. He
then instructed me to fill my bag from their by-the-pound
    apples on display nearby.

Can you believe that? As I watched, two more shoppers loaded a
bag into their carts and wheeled off. I whispered the
information to one woman who didn't seem to care. Oh, well.

You can bet I'll be weighing all my bagged produce from now
    on!

Wow, that really is quite a difference. I read somewhere that you should always weigh your produce. I've never done it though, but will from now on.

I do this too, usualy I find potato bags and go for the highest weight.
I shop at albertsons on occasion, but never produce, unless i luck into the 5lb bag of bananas for .99. Otherwise the produce is way over priced

wow! I always have found the opposite, that the 3 lb bags of apples weigh around 4 lbs usually, so that'd make sense I guess that some other peoples bags would be short a pound But that stinks! They should have better quality control than that!

Too bad there isn't a scale at Aldi. I buy their bagged apples all the time.

This is the reason that I always weigh prebagged produce. I also buy the heaviest bag so I get more bang for my buck!!!!
