What are the best money saving things you have done?
Shell started a post about the worst. So, i thought I'd do the flip side.
I'd have to say paying myself first. I opened an accout at a different bank and go there straight away after the checking acct deposit. I just a year I have managed to save over $2000. Dh didn't even know I had done it till I had to go to the bank one day when he was with me.
The next thing I'd have to say is paying $100 over on our home loan each month. This has shaved off 10 years on the morgage. We live on a modest income and save fanatically. Not this week though, more on that later.
What was your?

I would have to say, learning to do OAMC cooking. We save money by not eating out and not buying convenience foods. I also save money by buying at the thrift stores and the "scratch and dent" grocery stores.
This is a great thread. Thanks for starting it!

Shopping at the bread thrift store. I can get 8 loaves of Wonderbread for less than $6.00. That will last me for a month and compared to the $1.99 per loaf it costs at the store, that is considerable savings!
Buying fruits and veggies at the wholesale market, which conveniently is right down the street from the bread store, lol. I like to hit them both together for convenience.
There's more, but it's too early in the morning

HM Baby Wipes is a real money saver for me! Dh didn't like them at first, but now he LOVES them as much as I do. The babies don't get as many rashes either!
Plus I figured out that if I use coupons that will pay me to buy items I can use the difference to buy the stuff we need. For instance Suave shampoo was on sale for .79 and I had .50 coupons that I could double. I got paid .21 to buy each bottle of shampoo. With 10 of those I had $2.21 to apply to my other purchases!

Cooking from scratch, buying loss leaders on sale and stockpiling, shopping at yard sales, not eating out....Making my own laundry soap... Doing the work on our home ourselves, buying an extended waranty on the car....
