We just got a huge blessing!
Some good friends stopped by this afternoon to tell us that their neighbors were giving away free Walla Walla Sweet onions. These are the 2nds that the processing plants can't sell because, get this, the tops of the onions are not in the exact center of the onion!
Why that would make a difference is beyond me since they all taste the same. Anyway, these are 23% sugar (yumm) and that makes them really sweet! We went up to get some and the couple giving them away told us that they were offered some onions last year and were given 3 huge bags. This year, they were offered some more and were given a huge industrial size crate that literally held a ton of onions (yes folks, 1200 pounds)! So....they are desperately looking for takers on these onions! We got 4 bags full plus a plastic crate for us and a bag full for our neighbors. We called everyone we could think of to go and get onions because they have to all be gone by tomorrow night!
We'll be dehydrating onions and freezing onions, making french onion soup, storing some for later and eating some fresh! I'm in onion heaven right now!!!!

that's a great deal. I think the first thing I would make is the french onion soup especially since it's getting cooler

Yummy! I use onions in nearly everything I cook. That French Onion soup is sounding good... I might have to make a pot tonight. Enjoy your windfall!
