Do you feel money/finances should be a required course in High School?
A huge resounding YES. I wish I had known a bit more about finances when I was in High School, rather than wait until I got much older.

It was in my high school. But the problem is you can only teach this is how it works stuff like how to write out a check and how interest works they can show how it is better to save but they can't teach you should save stuff. At least that is what I was told back in 1988 when I was a senior and asked the teacher after class why she wasn't telling us we should save instead of just shoing us how good it is to save.
Cuz to a teenager waiting to buy things and waiting to save for things just dosn't sound fun, and heck we are never gonna be 30!!

I Agree with Kim - I thought 26 was past it LOL.
They taught us to write cheques at school but not how to budget
Although looking back on it as I wasn't going to EVER be 30 either, or have ANY responsibilities
I honestly don't know how much I would've learnt?
I think the best teacher of all (like most things) is being hungry and poor LOL

Oh absolutely. You know you could make this a fun class. Assigning everyone set wages and bills, etc.... . It could be a great way to learn the "tricks of the budgeting trade". I wish I had spent more time with my own kids on this topic. I have to admit however they do pretty well now that they are grown...taking care of THEIR money...

I think the should teach this in school, but I saw a set in the store the other day where the prent was basically the bank and the kids made deposits, like their allowances or birthday money and when they needed it, write a check to mom or dad(the bank) and learn that way how it works.

Nope. I for one do not want the schools to teach my children about money! I want to instill the money values in my children. I doubt the schools would teach about the evils of credit card debt, stewardship, tithing and so forth.
If they learn a different set of values at school it will make my job as a Christian parent that much more difficult.

Yes, I think it should. I knew how to write a check but not how to budget. I learned by making mistakes! I guess that is the best way although not the easiest.
