Free chook food!
G'day y'all!
I went to our local Co-op today, a farmer's supply store in Warrnambool, and guess what?
I was given permission to collect all of the food spills - grain, dog and cat kibble, bird food, the lot! FREE!
So I brought home about 1/3 of a shopping bag (which they provided) and will know next time to bring my own dustpan and shovel for the stuff.
Gave a whole lot to the ducks, the peafowl and the chickens, and everyone was happy!
"Free" is one of my favourite four letter words! lol
I'm also checking the fruit and veg. we get for free from Swinton's, who are next door to the Co-op (so go figure I'll be visiting the Co-op every day!), and we score a lot of good stuff - again for free. Naturally, it is all carefully washed before use, and anything slightly off gets chopped or just thrown back for animal food.
Tonight, for example, I managed to grab some stone fruit, lettuce, green beans, apples and celery. All free! Yippee!
God is good!
Naturally, we have permission to get this stuff.
So now we get free bread, free fruit and veg., free milk (dh's oldest son works in a Dairy) and free eggs from our free-range chooks. lol Oh, and the external water is free, too! And free firewood!
Soon, our piglet will be old enough to butcher, and it hasn't cost us anything, and then there's the Jersey steer we are fattening. Thankfully, no mad cow here. I'll be happy for you in Canada and the US when it's all over and done
