Default Frugal way to keep bra's their whitest?

Besides using bleach as I find it destroys the elastic in your bra's do any of you have a frugal way to help keep your bra's looking really white? Right now I hand wash them using zero.

I use all-fabric bleach with mine. You might try a drop or two of "blueing" - I used to use this, but haven't in a long time. I'll have to pick some up.

I've found that using bleach actually turns my whites yellow. It must be something in the water. I like OxiClean, but it's kind of expensive in my opinion. Here's a recipe for homemade:

    1 cup hot water
    1/2 cup baking soda
    1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide

Mix ingredients. To use on clothes, soak the clothing in it for
20 minutes to overnight; then wash as usual.

    Some other tips I found:

I have found using the dishwasher detergent instead of oxyclean worked wonders. I had run out and tried it, worked great. I use the cheap detergent from Sam's, buy it in a bucket. cau

Oh!!!! I tried the oxy-clean on my bra's today and they look much whiter. That saved me sooooo much money. They were starting to look gray even though they fit just fine I just wanted to throw them all out. I think one more wash in that stuff and they'll ALMOST look new. Thanks!

I use my black bra as much as possible and try to keep my white for when I wear really light colored clothes. Also, I wash my bras with shampoo. I take my bras with me into the shower, was w/shampoo and hang in the bathroom- it's usually dry by the next day...i do throw it into the washing machine in a lingerie bag once a week but for day to day the shower has worked great for me.

I do what Diane does--wash with shampoo in the shower, it takes any body soil off without the damage.

dryers just trash the lycra. It's real rubber so the heat softens, and melts the rubber in lycra a little each time.

And I ditto, OXY soaks, but I may try that homemade version.

Have you all noticed they are making fewer and fewer bras in skin tone now. Most are in white (at least in the frugal but huge size and price points that I shop in.)

I finally had to toss out my last skin tone one, bummed out, i liked it alot.

I have been looking at my white bras wondering the same thing, how to get them white. I am so happy to find a way to whiten them. Glad to know that hang drying them was the right thing to do! I am going to try that homemade solution, thanks!
