    Unhappy Food Comparison

I've been meaning to do this for a while and I also think this will make our American friends feel better about how much you pay for food. Here are some typical things I buy at the grocery store. This is without coupons so you can see the before price. I think it would be great if you put down how much you pay where you live:

    Whole wheat bread $3.69
    Doz. eggs $3.75
Russet potatoes 1.74/kg $1.85 that is 4 large potatoes
    broccoli 3.28/kg $1.69
    bananas 1.26/kg $0.94 about 5 bananas

I can get the bread a bit cheaper but I am trying to eat a very healthy whole wheat bread.

Now everyone put in your average price, I think it would be fun to compare prices around the world.

    Wow.

I need to grab a few things tomorrow, but off the top the bread I normally get (White Wheat by natures own) is around $2.89 in the store, but I found it next door at BigLots for 99 cents

I've got the weekly flyer and here's what some of those prices are:

Bananas 3lbs for $1. (on special this week, normally about 50 cents a lb)
Eggs are around $1.50 a dozen
    Broccoli is $1.49/lb

I am going shopping tomorrow when I go do laundry. I'll be sure and pay attention to how much I spend on what. It would be interesting to know what we all pay for similar items.

Is this having converted Canadian to US Dollars? It still seems terrible that the staples are so very expensive, either way! We pay about .96 for a loaf of wheat bread, generic. Eggs 1.12 a doz milk a gallon us between 3 and 4 dollars. Bananas .44 a pound

Nope, no conversion, and each Canadian dollar is worth about around 68 or 69 cents US right now so just multiply it out

    or

I generally mentally add 30 to 35 cents to each dollar to make it into American.

But if you came here, you could buy the stuff with your dollar and go a lot further because each of yours is worth about $1.35 of ours.

OK right now for Gasoline, it's 96 cents a liter. There are 4 L to the US Gallon which makes it 3.84

    in Canadian, and

for you that would be in US dollars about3$. rough figures only. very rough

I know gas prices are rough right now Canadian Gardener. It costs a little over $50.00 to fill my vehicle and my brother's is almost twice that price.
