Car repair woes....
I'm telling you life just drives me crazy right now!! Or doesn't drive, thats the problem!
Now I adore my Jeep but I swear its possessed and it hates me! NEVER any minor things that I (or family) could do ourselves. I need my engine rebuilt! Now considering I just spent like $1100 on the transmission and I just paid it off a few months back I'm NOT willing to junk it.
I figure after this I'll get another 115,000 miles out of it right?? And for $1400 its not like I could buy a decent car for that price anyway. Thats about 5 months of payments on a new car and lets not talk about the increased insurance costs.
Am I on the right track girls?? Or just too attached to my Wrangler?? Is this the frugal way or as my dh says, I'm TRULY off my rocker??
ps -- dh will NEVER know how much this is costing us.....he'd flip!

My '88 Jeep Cherokee has almost 240k miles on the odometer. I plan on getting a rebuilt engine asap. BTW, it's still looks great and is very dependable. I'm attached to my Jeep as well, so I can understand your sentiments. Now, if you asked me about my dh's Suburban, well that's a different story. It's a piece of junk, lol.

*shock -- consider yourself VERY LUCKY to have gotten so far on one engine! **jeleous!
Well, I'm glad someone else feels the same way as me. I promised my dh he would get the next "new" car and I plan on sticking to that promise. He deserves it anyways. He's been driving a beater for years now!

If it is costing you more to maintain it then I'd say trade it in (when it's running) and get yourself an gently used vehicle.

Well - I'm sure it's a proven fact that when it rains it pours...
as if we haven't had enough going on recently, in the last 7 weeks, we've spent $3700 in vehicle repairs.....
Hoping things start looking a little brighter for you!!
(By the way - when I had my Wrangler, I would've put money in it if it meant I didn't eat! I loved that thing!!)

Jeeps stay around for a long time! Dh is a Jeep mechanic and Wranglers never die--they are just driven until they fall apart!
$1400 isn't out of line for a new engine. Keep in mind just how much work goes into rebuiding an engine
. If the rest of the car is fine, keep it. Your insurance will stay low, you won't have payments and you are familiar with this beast.

Dr Dipstick is a help. http://home.att.net/~drdipstik/new.htm is when he thinks it's time to buy.
here is his home page http://home.att.net/~drdipstik/home.htm and he really is the temple of thrifty motoring. Good site.

My DH used to be a mechanic. When it was time to look into a new car for me, he put his foot down on Jeep's on Land Rovers. He said they were both money-pits.
But truth be told, I think Jeep's are cute!
