Question Are you frugal enough to make garbage soup?

OK confess, are you frugal enough for this soup:

I have to admit I make soup from scratch using ahem older carrots and celery but not garbage.

I have read in cook books to use peelings or older veggies and of course bones. It makes a great soup. My Mom will throw in a cup of gravy which makes it taste good but is very fattening. I have also read if you put in a splash of vinegar it helps bring out the calcium in the bones so you build stronger bones.

I've done this. It usually turns out to be a very good tasting soup and saves tons of money!

If you all are talking about snagging the bones off people's plates, and boiling them up with the leftover bits of meat, gravy and veggie water plus trimmings yes indeed.

It works well. boiling sterilizes. I don't like veggie peelings unless we are talking organic from my garden simply because of the wax coatings and oils that trap pesticide residue next to the skin of some veggies. If I'm worried about pesticides I toss peels.
