manual appliances
How many use any manual appliances vs. electric? I use a manual canopener lately, a manual potato masher, and prefer a hand grater to my food processor for simple things like grating cheese.

I also use a manual grater, can opener, potato masher and a knife to chop up most things. I do drawn the line at making bread by hand though or whipping cream. I use my Kitchenaid for that!

I use a manual can opener more than the electric one. I prefer the manual potato masher and a good sharp knife and cutting board. Whenever I can, I mix by hand with a good strong wooden spoon as well.

I use a manual can opener, it is easier to get it out of the drawer than to have an electric one sitting on my counter taking up space
. I also use a manual potato masher, my kids used to call it the "tater smasher", to make my mashed potatoes because I like it better that way. I like a few lumps in my potatoes and with the electic mixer it makes them too starchy for me. I will usually cut up my veggies by hand rather than with the electric chopper unless I am doing a huge batch of something (like with OAMC).

I use a manual can opener, potato masher, bread knife. I sometimes use my hands to knead my bread, but most times I use my KA.

I loved my manual can opener. I think it was my grandmother's. It completely fell apart a couple months ago and I can't replace it. I can't find one around here that actually opens can without breaking. (I have one I haven't broke, but it doesn't open cans) What kind of manual can opener do you guys have?

I don't own an electric can opener.
I use a manual can opener, grater, potato masher, a wire wisk to mix things instead of an electric mixer, and I prefer my favorite knife when chopping onions, etc.

I use a lot of manual stuff, but for kneading bread or grinding grain or the food processor stuff, I prefer the machine.

I wish I had a Kitchen Aid and I don't have a food processor. Everything I have to do for cooking is manual. I do however love my salad spinner!!!!!

Let's see:
I don't even own an electric can opener. Manual only.
Use my own hands to knead bread dough and mix cookie dough - I don't have a KA either.
Use a manual potato masher, pie crust blender, grater, hand grinder for meats, veggies, hand grinder for grains to make flour, hand slicer for raw veggies, use a wire whisk or one of those old fashioned egg beater thingies
Took me forever to find one of those, and I snatched it up the minute I saw it, didn't even look at the price.

Although I have a food processor, I rarely use it. I do everything by hand including bread. I do use an electric knife for cutting meat and for slicing my bread before I put it in the freezer.

Ditto! I use a plastic spoon or wire whisk to mix most things.
I have an electric can opener, but haven't used it in forever. It's up on a shelf with a stuffed bunny cover over it.
And Karen-- my manual can opener isn't anything fancy-- just one with a black handle that came from Target. I've had it 5+ years now with no problems.
