coffee drinkers
Have you considered instead of leaving your coffeemaker on to keep the pot heated, to put your coffee in an insulated thermos or carafe?

I do this. While I'm making breakfast, I get the carafe warmed up with hot water, then obviously dump out the water and put my coffee in it.
Another frugal thing in my frugal day!! lol

I've been thinking about picking up one of those air pots at the Dollar Store. My mom did this too. Since I drink coffee all day, this would keep it from "cooking" too. Thanks for reminding me.

I like to let my pot go cold, then nuke the cups as I want them. I prefer getting them good and hot that way, and avoiding cleaning our thermos which is one of those awful narrow neck models that dh adores because he doesn't clean it. Big honkin steel thing that used to go to work with him a lot.

Sara I haven't tried this yet but I bumped it back up, it's the ultimate in cold coffee
energy saving coffee brewing using cold water, apparently it works and reduces acids and off flavours in the coffee.
I'm needing a bit more courage than usual to try messing with my coffee but if you want to sacrifice yourself on the altar of science, here is the link with the info

I have cut down on coffee to only a few cups in the morning so I don't try and save it any other way than keeping it warm on the coffeemaker.
That's a good idea, though. My Mom drinks coffee all day long and makes a whole pot and puts it in a thermos so she doesn't have to worry about shutting off the coffeemaker (she often would forget).

I have always used a Termal Carafe for my coffee.
I do not like the taste of coffee left on the burner.
My Hubby leaves his in the pot, on the burner....YUK!!!!

It looks like a neat alternative to me. I'm going to try it. I never would have thought of cold brewing.Originally posted by canadian gardener
