Question What do you think is a good budget

In your opinion, what do you think would be a good $$ amount to set aside each month for groceries for Mike and myself. Since there are only the 2 of us, I don't buy in bulk often at all, I limit my trip to Walmart to once a month to stock up on paper goods, HBC items, dog/cat food/supplies, etc.

We don't eat organic or require special dietary foods. I do like to eat healthier foods, such as lots of salads, fruits and veggies.

Just curious to what you would budget for yourself if this was your situation.

    Thanks

Gina, it is just my DH and I and two kitties. So I usually budget ourselves $60 for our dinners and my breakfasts and lunches for two weeks. DH likes to buy his own lunch stuff and we eat lunch out about once every two weeks which he pays for. So total I think we spend about $100 every two weeks on our food budget. We have the kitties food and vet budget seperate.

    Gina,
When it was just the two of us I budgeted $85.00 a month yes a MONTH. and we ate very well. (Of course that was back in the 80's early 90's)
Today for the three of us I budget about $ 250.00 for groceries, $45.00 for pet food (Thats for 4 animals we buy in bulk). and We go to SAM's for our paper items.

    Gina,
I think budgets would vary depending on what your prices for food are and if you have access to double or triple coupons, dollar stores, etc...
If you build up a stockpile buying when items are on sale, you could really cut your grocery bills down. DH and I figured that he and I could eat for about $130 a month if we did not have the kids at home and that would still include food and cat litter for the 5 cats, all our paper and plastic products, etc.. We do tend to have high food prices here, but I hit the sales and stock up when things are cheap. We also have a garden, so that helps keep our produce prices down.

I'm going to try for $125 a month. I do have access to dollar stores, we have triple coupons (sometimes) and double coupons on a regular basis. We'll see if I can do it!
