Cost comparison
I normally don't do a cost comparison of anything I bake/make but decided last night to start doing this to see just how much I was actually saving by baking from scratch.
We wanted pizza last night for supper.
~to go out - the cost would have been approx. $45.00 (2 adults and 3 teens). That would have included drinks (pop & milk) It would have also cost us gas for the van because the nearest pizza place is one hour away.
~to purchase ready made at the local store would have cost $16.00 - $7.99 per pizza but not as large as had we gone to a pizza restaurant.
~to make two pizzas at home cost me $10.05. I had wheat already ground up. Cheese was on sale, I had purchased the mushrooms by a caselot when they had a caselot sale, onions were from our garden that were stored downstairs and the sauce was on sale. Our family loves pepperoni on the pizza. Thats what drove the price up to $10. We drank water - $0
Do you do any cost comparisons to see just how much you are saving?

sometimes I do. Like when I make Meatball or anytype of subs.
If we go to Subway it's $20.00 (2 adults 1 teen) including sodas and chips
If I buy it all at the store it runs us about $17.00
When I make it all from scratch it only costs about $10.00, and feeds us at least 3 times. I make enough meatballs for several meals and bread is the same way.
When we do pizza, it only costs us $10.00 Little Ceasar's $5.00 for a large we get two Daniel can eat one by himself

Funny you should post this today CJ!
Jaysn is having hsi birthday party on Friday night and we are having a sleepover for him. We will have 6 hungry teens plus hubby and I to feed and Jaysn wants pizza. We just went over how much it would cost to buy all those pizzas as opposed to me making them from scratch. It will cost me about $12 to make them from scratch and would have cost about $40 from the pizza places.

My favorite eating out treat is Old Chicago for a pepperoni, mushroom, and black olive Calzone, a yummy salad with Romaine, cucumber and almonds w/ Bleu cheese and two Avalanches. This alwys costs $19.00 with the tip for one person!! I made up a bunch for the freezer (granted the dough isn't exactly like Old Chicago but I am working on it. It cost 15.00 to make twenty. Salads I always have but I have added almonds and home made bleu cheese dressing - $4.00 for a big jug. Avalanche is $6.99 a six pack as opposed to $3.75 each at Old Chicago. $3.72 for the same lunch at home!!

I used to, but stopped doing the cost comparisons when we went organic. On quite a few things I know we're still saving money, but on other things it would be cheaper to eat out..... of course on that note, eating out wouldn't be organic food.
