Default Tomato Prices R about to Sky Rocket...

I don't know if this only applies in the states or not but Tomato crops were really miserable this year with the hurricanes and what not and they will become very high priced pretty quickly here. Also Canning prices (Tin prices) are going up so all canned goods are going to go up. Right now Kroger is running tomato products at 40% off - it is probably a real good time to stock up!!

Thanks for the heads up Kimmee! Tomato products are on sale here too right now and I am still eating fresh ones that I rescued from my garden before the freeze.

Fresh tomatoes were $2.79 a lb. here last week. I`ll be looking for some good sales here as we didn`t get many in our garden this year.

I canned a few myself this year. It was my first attempt, so I didn't do many. Thanks Kimmie, I will plan on stocking up. I hear a lot of things are on the rise this winter.

I saw $2.99/lb yesterday. ACK! I got some that looked ok today for 1.68/lb. I also got canned ones as a loss leader 4/1.00, limit eight. Yep, I bought 8!

Our personal crop wasn't good at all, too cool and cloudy here most of the summer. I put up some salsa but otherwise we mainly just had enough to eat for the summer. I have some in the freezer from last year that I'll be using up for stews and sauces but need to stock up on canned tomatoes as well.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~
